Community Director   $400,000 USD/year

Description

Families who enroll at Alpha seldom find us through advertising. They hear about us when a trusted friend shares at the dinner table: "This transformed my child." Your responsibility is to build and sustain that word-of-mouth system across an entire region—through intimate dinners, parent champion programs, city hall partnerships, and the CEO who provides a 14-year-old with their first meaningful project opportunity.

In a typical week, you'll move through four distinct settings. You'll plan and execute the region's full event calendar, ranging from 150-attendee open houses to carefully curated eight-person dinners, running several each month. You'll identify enthusiastic current parents willing to speak with prospective families and orchestrate one-to-one matches. You'll cultivate connections with municipal leaders and corporate executives, converting those relationships into event venues, new campus launch support, and tangible opportunities for students. And you'll operationalize the Alpha Networks framework: facilitating introductions, organizing expert-led masterclasses, arranging internships, onboarding alumni, and tracking every interaction family by family.

There is no complete manual. You'll create the playbook as you execute, and the processes you develop will be adopted by colleagues building identical engines in other markets. As your region expands, performance standards intensify rather than ease: doors opened per enrolled family must increase even as total enrollment rises. Success is measured by the proportion of growth driven by authentic personal endorsements, evaluated across multi-year trends rather than quarterly cycles.

No academic credential is mandatory, and institutional pedigree does not matter. An MBA, a career in consulting or wealth management, and a self-built trajectory in community building, hospitality, or institutional advancement are valued equally. What matters is demonstrated ability to convene people and convert those relationships into measurable outcomes.

This position is on-site in one of these regions: San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, Denver, Greenwich, Miami, Atlanta, Boston, Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Dorado, Nashville, or Park City. The role requires evening and weekend availability in settings with high-expectation parents, elected officials, and entrepreneurs, plus frequent local travel. You will become the most networked individual in your city, and you will deploy that capital for the benefit of students. If that exchange represents purpose rather than sacrifice, submit your application.

What you will be doing

  • Planning and executing the region's event calendar: open-format gatherings, grade- and city-specific curated dinners, and family retreats, running multiple per month within budget
  • Identifying and securing venues, hosts, and vendors, then serving as live host during events
  • Enlisting current parents to serve as ambassadors, preparing them with authentic narratives, and pairing them with prospective families and campus tours
  • Establishing connections with municipal officials and business leaders, and converting those into venues, campus launch assistance, and opportunities for students
  • Organizing enrolled families into parent circles and connecting students with mentorships, expert-led masterclasses, and professional internships, and integrating graduating families into alumni networks within 30 days
  • Recording every event, introduction, and initial contact attribution in the CRM (customer relationship management platform) to ensure "doors opened per family" reflects accurate data

What you will NOT be doing

  • Purchasing growth. No paid advertising, no media budget, no metrics based on impressions or lead volume
  • Controlling brand narrative or top-level campaigns; that belongs to Marketing
  • Managing admissions logistics, conducting tours, or handling enrollment documentation; Admissions and Family Success own those functions
  • Operating a campus on a day-to-day basis, or managing the physical facility
  • Treating raw attendance figures and headcount as if a crowded room were the objective
  • Delaying action until a finalized playbook, template, or support team is in place

Key responsibilities

Drive people-driven referrals to become the primary source of enrollment growth in your region.

Candidate requirements

  • 5+ years developing communities or relationship-driven programs in K-12 education, membership organizations, or equivalent network businesses, where growth originated from people: referrals, members, congregations, chapters, alumni, or client portfolios, with quantifiable results
  • Personally planned and executed 20+ gatherings spanning the full spectrum, from intimate curated dinners to open events with 100+ attendees, with budget accountability
  • Established and sustained relationships with municipal officials or corporate executives that generated specific, identifiable value
  • Consistent CRM practitioner; documenting relationships, attributions, and activities is an established routine
  • Currently resides in, or willing to relocate to, one of these regions: San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, Denver, Greenwich (CT), Miami, Atlanta, Boston, Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Dorado (PR), Nashville, or Park City (UT)
  • Authorized to work in the US without need for visa sponsorship

Nice to have

  • Led regional growth, community initiatives, or partnership programs for a network-oriented organization: a school system, membership association, franchise model, or civic or faith-based institution
  • Developed and leveraged a high-trust relationship portfolio as a client-facing leader in wealth management, consulting, or business development
  • Advanced through admissions, institutional advancement, community organizing, or hospitality roles, and consistently served as the designated host and institutional representative
  • Pre-existing relationships with local government or business leaders in your target city
  • Deep understanding of how families navigate high-stakes educational decisions
