Student Engagement Assistant   $40,000 USD/year

Description

IMPORTANT NOTE: This position operates on a hybrid schedule and requires in-person availability in Arizona.

Imagine a role focused entirely on keeping students motivated, connected, and eager to participate—with no curriculum planning, grading, or instructional delivery required.

This position is designed for individuals who excel at working with young people and thrive in dynamic settings. At Unbound Academy, a tuition-free virtual charter school, students complete their academic work efficiently using AI-driven tools, then engage in live, interactive workshops centered on life skills, teamwork, and self-assurance. Your responsibility is to ensure these experiences are seamless and meaningful for every student.

You will serve as the vital link in the student experience. Your focus will be facilitating smooth transitions, guiding small groups, sustaining energy levels, and providing support when students need direction or encouragement. Content instruction is not part of your role—but your presence is essential to making the model work.

If you have experience leading youth through camps, extracurricular programs, athletics, tutoring sessions, or community organizations—and you're drawn to a hybrid position that combines online engagement with in-person teamwork—this is an opportunity to make education feel personal and purposeful again.

What you will be doing

  • Facilitating live virtual workshops by overseeing breakout rooms, managing transitions, maintaining pacing, and ensuring smooth group dynamics
  • Fostering active participation through chat interactions, verbal recognition, prompts, and one-on-one student connections
  • Supporting students in staying focused, confident, and socially connected throughout their learning day
  • Providing lead educators with operational and logistical support to maintain session continuity
  • Serving as a reliable, familiar presence within student clubs and life-skills programming

What you will NOT be doing

  • Delivering instruction in academic subjects or teaching core content
  • Developing lesson plans, evaluating student work, or conducting academic assessments
  • Building curriculum or facilitating workshops without guidance
  • Remaining passive or observing from the sidelines—this role demands active, sustained involvement

Key responsibilities

Facilitate dynamic, virtual learning environments by keeping students engaged, organized, and motivated across all workshop activities.

Candidate requirements

  • Available to begin immediately or at the end of July (either start date is acceptable).
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience mentoring, coaching, tutoring, or working with youth in a leadership capacity
  • Educational history within U.S., Canadian, or U.K. school systems (K–16); schooling must have occurred in one of these countries
  • Student-centered, energizing demeanor with excellent organizational and observational skills
  • Willingness to work in a hybrid capacity in Arizona.
