Remote Youth Mentor   $40,000 USD/year

Description

This position is designed for individuals who excel at keeping young people engaged, motivated, and eager to participate—without the burden of curriculum development, assessments, or traditional academic instruction.

Unbound Academy operates a fully virtual, tuition-free charter school where students accelerate through academic content using AI-powered tools, then engage in live, interactive workshops centered on life skills, teamwork, and personal growth. Your role is to ensure these sessions feel seamless and compelling for every student involved.

You will serve as the operational backbone of the student experience. You'll facilitate smooth transitions, guide small groups, sustain energy levels, and provide encouragement or clarification when students need it. Content delivery is not part of your responsibility—but your presence is critical to making the model function effectively.

If you have a background in youth camps, after-school initiatives, athletics, tutoring, or community youth programs—and you're drawn to a role that combines virtual engagement with real-time collaboration—this opportunity allows you to make school feel genuinely human once more.

What you will be doing

  • Facilitating live virtual workshops by overseeing breakout rooms, managing transitions, adjusting pacing, and maintaining group flow
  • Promoting participation using chat tools, verbal shout-outs, gentle nudges, and one-on-one student check-ins
  • Keeping students engaged, confident, and socially connected across the entire learning day
  • Supporting lead educators with logistical coordination to ensure sessions run without disruption
  • Serving as a reliable, familiar presence within student clubs and life-skills programming

What you will NOT be doing

  • Delivering academic instruction or teaching subject-area content
  • Developing lesson plans, grading assignments, or conducting academic evaluations
  • Designing curricula or facilitating workshops on your own
  • Taking a passive or observational role—this position demands active, sustained energy

Key responsibilities

Facilitate dynamic, virtual learning environments by keeping students engaged, organized, and motivated throughout every workshop session.

Candidate requirements

  • Available to start on August 1, 2026
  • At least 3 years of experience mentoring, coaching, tutoring, or leading youth
  • Educational background within U.S., Canadian, or U.K. school systems (K–16); must have attended school in one of these countries
  • Strong communication skills and high comfort operating across digital platforms
  • Energizing, student-first presence with strong attention to detail and smooth transitions
  • Willing to work full-time, Monday–Friday, 8:00am–5:00pm U.S. Mountain Time (UTC-7)
  • Willing to work in a hybrid role in Arizona.
