Online Youth Mentor   $40,000 USD/year

Description

IMPORTANT NOTE: This is a hybrid role that requires physical presence in Arizona.

What if your role focused on keeping students motivated, engaged, and eager to participate—with no lesson planning, grading, or academic instruction involved?

This position is designed for individuals who connect naturally with young people and excel in dynamic environments. At Unbound Academy's entirely virtual, tuition-free charter school, students advance rapidly through academic content using AI-powered tools, then participate in live, interactive workshop sessions centered on life skills, teamwork, and personal growth. Your responsibility is to ensure these sessions flow seamlessly and create positive experiences for every student.

You'll serve as the glue that holds the experience together. You'll facilitate smooth transitions, guide small group activities, maintain high energy, and provide support when students need reassurance or direction. Content delivery isn't your role—but the experience falls apart without you.

If you've worked with youth in camps, after-school settings, athletics, tutoring, or youth leadership programs—and you're drawn to a hybrid position combining virtual engagement with in-person teamwork—this is an opportunity to make school feel genuinely human once more.

What you will be doing

  • Facilitating live virtual workshop sessions by overseeing breakout rooms, managing transitions, monitoring pacing, and maintaining group dynamics
  • Promoting student participation via chat messages, verbal recognition, gentle prompts, and one-on-one student interactions
  • Ensuring students remain engaged, self-assured, and socially connected throughout their learning day
  • Supporting lead educators with operational logistics that enable sessions to function seamlessly
  • Serving as a dependable, familiar presence within student clubs and life-skills programming

What you will NOT be doing

  • Instructing academic subjects or presenting educational content
  • Developing lesson plans, evaluating student work, or conducting academic assessments
  • Building curriculum or facilitating workshops without supervision
  • Remaining passive or uninvolved—this is a hands-on, dynamic position

Key responsibilities

Facilitate engaging, virtual learning environments by keeping students organized, motivated, and actively involved throughout every workshop session.

Candidate requirements

  • Available to start immediately or at the end of July (one of the two).
  • At least 1 years of experience mentoring, coaching, tutoring, or leading youth
  • Educational background within U.S., Canadian, or U.K. school systems (K–16); must have attended school in one of these countries
  • Energizing, student-first presence with strong attention to detail
  • Willing to work in a hybrid role in Arizona.
