In this role, you will guide small-group reading workshops at a school designed for young gamers, combining phonics instruction, adaptive literacy technology, and personalized coaching to help K-2 students develop the same passion for reading that they already have for games.

What you will be doing
- Plan and facilitate small-group reading workshops for K-2 students, making phonics instruction engaging, enjoyable, and tailored to individual needs
- Adjust teaching approaches dynamically based on student responses, group literacy levels, and engagement signals
- Conduct motivational one-on-one check-ins with students to support progress in adaptive literacy applications and reach learning milestones
- Track student performance data from adaptive platforms and apply insights to customize instruction for each group
- Employ storytelling, humor, gaming references, and encouragement to sustain student effort and address reluctance
Candidate requirements
- Willing to work on-site at NextGen Academy in Austin, TX
- Bachelor's degree in elementary education, reading, or a related discipline
- Certification in structured literacy methods such as Orton-Gillingham, Wilson Reading System, or comparable evidence-based phonics frameworks
- 2+ years of experience providing small-group reading instruction to K-2 students or struggling readers
- Proven ability to evaluate student reading levels and independently create differentiated lesson plans
- Genuine enthusiasm for video games and gaming culture, even if not a gamer yourself
- Legally authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship
