What you will be doing
- Plan and facilitate small-group reading workshops for K-2 learners, making phonics instruction engaging, enjoyable, and tailored to individual needs
- Adjust teaching approaches dynamically based on student performance, group proficiency levels, and engagement signals
- Conduct motivational sessions with students to promote progress in adaptive literacy applications and reach learning milestones
- Track student progress metrics from adaptive platforms and apply insights to customize instruction for each group
- Employ storytelling, humor, gaming comparisons, and affirmative feedback to sustain student effort and address reluctance
Candidate requirements
- Available to work onsite at NextGen Academy in Austin, TX
- Bachelor's degree in elementary education, reading, or a related discipline
- Certification in structured literacy methodologies such as Orton-Gillingham, Wilson Reading System, or comparable evidence-based phonics approaches
- 2+ years of experience providing small-group reading instruction to K-2 students or learners facing reading challenges
- Proven capacity to evaluate student reading proficiency and develop differentiated instruction autonomously
- Genuinely interested in video games and gaming culture, whether or not you are an active gamer
- Legally authorized to work in the United States without requiring visa sponsorship
