What you will be doing
- Create and facilitate small-group reading sessions for K-2 learners, making phonics instruction engaging, enjoyable, and tailored to each child
- Modify teaching approaches on the fly according to student responses, reading proficiency levels, and engagement signals
- Conduct motivational sessions with students to promote progress in adaptive literacy platforms and reach learning milestones
- Track student progress metrics from adaptive technology and apply this data to customize instruction for each reading cohort
- Employ storytelling, humor, gaming metaphors, and positive feedback to sustain student effort and address reluctance
Candidate requirements
- Willing to work on-site at NextGen Academy in Austin, TX
- Bachelor's degree in elementary education, reading, or related field
- Certification in structured literacy approaches such as Orton-Gillingham, Wilson Reading System, or similar evidence-based phonics programs
- 2+ years of experience delivering small-group reading instruction to K-2 students or struggling readers
- Demonstrated ability to assess student reading levels and design differentiated instruction independently
- Enthusiastic about video games and gaming culture, even if not a gamer yourself
- Legally authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship
