In this role, you will facilitate small-group reading workshops at a school designed around the interests of young gamers. Using phonics-based methods, adaptive literacy technology, and individualized coaching, you will help K-2 students develop the same enthusiasm for reading that they already have for games.

What you will be doing
- Plan and facilitate small-group reading workshops for K-2 learners, ensuring phonics instruction is engaging, enjoyable, and tailored to individual needs
- Modify teaching approaches dynamically in response to student engagement signals, reading proficiency levels, and group dynamics
- Conduct motivational sessions with students to promote progress in adaptive literacy applications and support goal attainment
- Track student performance data generated by adaptive software and apply insights to customize instruction for each reading cohort
- Employ storytelling techniques, humor, gaming metaphors, and affirmative feedback to sustain student effort and address reluctance
Candidate requirements
- Available to work on-site at NextGen Academy in Austin, TX
- Bachelor's degree in elementary education, reading, or a related discipline
- Certification in structured literacy methodologies such as Orton-Gillingham, Wilson Reading System, or comparable evidence-based phonics frameworks
- 2+ years of experience providing small-group reading instruction to K-2 students or learners with reading difficulties
- Proven capability to evaluate student reading proficiency and develop differentiated instructional plans autonomously
- Genuine interest in video games and gaming culture, regardless of personal gaming experience
- Authorized to work legally in the United States without requiring visa sponsorship
