Student Support Specialist   $40,000 USD/year

Description

IMPORTANT NOTE: This is a hybrid role requiring on-site presence in Arizona.

Imagine a role where your focus is keeping students motivated, engaged, and eager to participate—free from lesson planning, grading, or academic instruction.

This position is built for individuals who connect naturally with young people and excel in dynamic environments. At Unbound Academy's tuition-free virtual charter school, students advance through their academic work efficiently using AI-powered tools, then transition into live, interactive workshops that emphasize collaboration, life skills, and personal growth. Your responsibility is to ensure these moments are seamless and meaningful for every student.

You'll serve as the vital link that holds the experience together. You'll coordinate transitions, facilitate small group activities, maintain high energy levels, and provide support when students need direction or reassurance. Content delivery isn't your role—but the student experience depends on your presence.

If you have experience guiding young people through camps, after-school initiatives, athletics, tutoring sessions, or youth programs—and you're drawn to a hybrid position that combines virtual engagement with in-person teamwork—this is an opportunity to make school feel personal and connected again.

What you will be doing

  • Facilitating live virtual workshops by coordinating breakout rooms, managing transitions, maintaining pacing, and guiding group dynamics
  • Promoting student participation using chat features, verbal affirmations, gentle prompts, and one-on-one touchpoints
  • Keeping students engaged, self-assured, and socially connected throughout their daily learning journey
  • Supporting lead educators with operational details that ensure sessions flow without interruption
  • Serving as a reliable, familiar presence within student clubs and life-skills programming

What you will NOT be doing

  • Delivering academic instruction or teaching subject-specific material
  • Developing lesson plans, evaluating student work, or conducting academic assessments
  • Building curriculum or facilitating workshops without supervision
  • Taking a passive or observational role—this position demands active involvement and high energy

Key responsibilities

Facilitate dynamic, virtual learning environments by keeping students engaged, well-organized, and enthusiastic during every workshop session.

Candidate requirements

  • Available to begin work immediately or at the end of July (must meet one of these two start dates).
  • At least 1 years of experience working with youth in mentoring, coaching, tutoring, or leadership capacities
  • Educational history within U.S., Canadian, or U.K. school systems (K–16); must have completed schooling in one of these countries
  • Energetic, student-centered demeanor with excellent attention to detail
  • Ready to work in a hybrid capacity in Arizona.
