Student Mentor   $40,000 USD/year

Description

IMPORTANT NOTE: This position is hybrid and requires you to be physically located in Arizona.

What if your role was to keep students motivated, supported, and eager to participate—with no lesson planning, grading, or academic assessment involved?

This position is designed for individuals who excel at working with young people and enjoy staying active. Unbound Academy operates a tuition-free, fully virtual charter school where students complete their academic work efficiently using AI-powered tools, then engage in live, interactive workshops that emphasize collaboration, life skills, and personal growth. Your responsibility is to ensure these experiences run seamlessly and resonate positively with students.

You will serve as the operational backbone of the student experience. You'll facilitate transitions, guide small groups, sustain energy and engagement, and provide support when students need clarification or encouragement. Content delivery is not part of your role—but your presence is essential to making the model effective.

If you have experience leading youth in settings like camps, after-school programs, athletics, tutoring, or community organizations—and the idea of a hybrid role combining virtual facilitation with in-person collaboration appeals to you—this is an opportunity to make education feel personal and impactful again.

What you will be doing

  • Facilitating live virtual workshops by coordinating breakout rooms, managing transitions, maintaining pacing, and supporting group dynamics
  • Fostering participation through real-time chat engagement, positive reinforcement, gentle prompts, and one-on-one student interactions
  • Ensuring students remain engaged, confident, and socially connected throughout their daily learning experience
  • Providing operational and logistical support to lead educators to maintain session continuity and quality
  • Serving as a reliable, approachable presence within student clubs and life-skills programming

What you will NOT be doing

  • Delivering academic instruction or teaching subject-area content
  • Developing lesson plans, grading assignments, or conducting academic evaluations
  • Building curriculum or facilitating workshops without oversight
  • Taking a passive or observational role—this position requires active involvement and high energy

Key responsibilities

Facilitate dynamic, virtual learning environments by maintaining student engagement, organization, and enthusiasm across all workshop sessions.

Candidate requirements

  • Able to begin immediately or at the end of July (either start date is acceptable).
  • Minimum of 1 years of experience in mentoring, coaching, tutoring, or youth leadership
  • Educational history within U.S., Canadian, or U.K. school systems (K–16); must have been educated in one of these countries
  • Energetic, student-centered approach with excellent attention to detail
  • Open to working in a hybrid capacity in Arizona.
