Guide   $100,000 USD/year

Description

  • Dripping Springs, TX (near Austin): on-site, full-time
  • $100,000/year, paid weekly; day-one health, dental, and vision benefits
  • Relocation support available

The most supportive thing you can do for a struggling kid is refuse to lower the bar. If you believe that — and if you'd rather take a cohort into the woods to prove it than explain it at a whiteboard — keep reading.

This isn't teaching. At Waypoint Academy, students don't sit in rows absorbing lectures. They move through adaptive learning software at their own pace while you coach them on focus, persistence, and goal attainment. You'll lead them outside: one-hour life-skills workshops on public speaking, teamwork, leadership, and problem-solving, through adventure-based, experiential activities built to be genuinely hard and genuinely fun. Each session closes with a Test2Pass mastery check — students demonstrate the targeted skill in context before they're done.

The rest of your week runs on motivation sessions: short, individual coaching conversations driven by Coachbot analytics, where you connect with students and get them moving toward their academic goals. You'll watch students transform from reluctant learners to confident achievers — measurably and immediately. Your own scoreboard is public: student satisfaction ratings (90% target) and weekly goal attainment (100% target).

Top performers move into senior coaching roles: managing a team and shaping how the school motivates and develops students. Above that sits full school ownership — outcomes, culture, the works. Dripping Springs is 30 minutes from Austin's tech scene, live music, and food culture, with 300+ sunny days and Hill Country outdoor access year-round.

If you've spent your career knowing there's a better way to reach kids, apply now.

What you will be doing

  • Leading 1-hour outdoor life-skills workshops (public speaking, focus, leadership, teamwork) through nature-based, adventure-style activities using Waypoint's curriculum and playbook
  • Running motivation sessions with individual students, using Coachbot analytics and student profile data to coach them toward their weekly academic goals
  • Closing each workshop with a Test2Pass mastery check: students demonstrate the targeted life skill in real context before the session ends
  • Applying outdoor safety judgment before every session: route and weather assessment, gear checks, and Leave No Trace basics per Waypoint's field guidelines
  • Bringing sessions to life through storytelling, creative customization, and the energy to hold attention from a cohort of K-12 learners indoors and out

What you will NOT be doing

  • Delivering academic lectures or standing at a board. Students learn course content through adaptive EdTech software; your role is to coach them through roadblocks, not deliver curriculum.
  • Monitoring students on screens. You'll be actively facilitating outdoor workshops, running motivation sessions, and coaching kids who are stuck.
  • Grading papers, writing lesson plans from scratch, or preparing students for standardized tests.
  • Lowering the bar for a student who's struggling. Goals are real, mastery is the standard, and your job is to coach students over the line — not move it.
  • Managing parent communications or school administration. Those responsibilities belong to the Campus Lead.

Key responsibilities

Help K-12 students at Waypoint Academy love school, learn faster, and build the life skills that stick.

Candidate requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in any subject
  • At least 3 years of experience working directly with K-12 students in school, camp, coaching, or outdoor education settings
  • Proven track record of high personal achievement: competitive athletics, academic honors, or elite professional performance
  • Compelling public speaker who can energize and hold attention from large groups of students, indoors and outdoors
  • Natural ability to connect with K-12 learners as a positive role model who pushes them to grow, not as a buddy who lets them off the hook
  • Legal right to work in the U.S. without visa sponsorship
  • Able to work in-person at the Waypoint Academy campus in Dripping Springs, TX (near Austin)

Nice to have

  • Experience as an athletic coach, outdoor trip leader, camp director, or wilderness program instructor
  • First aid or wilderness safety certification
  • Familiarity with adaptive learning platforms such as Khan Academy or IXL
  • Background in youth development, experiential education, or outdoor youth programming
