Director of Community Engagement   $400,000 USD/year

Description

Families who enroll at Alpha rarely find us through advertising. They come because someone they trust—sitting across a dinner table—told them, "This made a difference for our child." You will own that word-of-mouth system for an entire region: the gatherings, the parent champions, the relationship with the mayor's office, the CEO who provides a 14-year-old with their first meaningful project.

Your typical week involves four distinct environments. You create and execute the regional event calendar, ranging from 150-person open houses to eight-person curated dinners, running several each month. You identify and train current parents eager to share their experiences with prospective families, then broker one-to-one connections. You cultivate ties with municipal leaders and corporate executives, converting them into event venues, allies for campus expansions, and tangible pathways for students. And you fulfill the Alpha Networks promise: brokered introductions, expert-led masterclasses, internship placements, alumni integration, tracked meticulously family by family.

No complete playbook exists. You develop it in real time, and the frameworks you create become templates for colleagues building identical engines in other markets. As your region expands, the challenge intensifies: doors opened per family must increase even as total enrollment grows. Success is measured by the proportion of growth attributable to personal endorsements, evaluated over years rather than quarters.

No degree is mandatory, and no specific background is preferred. An MBA, a career in consulting or wealth management, and a self-directed path in community building, hospitality, or institutional advancement all carry equal weight. What matters is a demonstrated history of convening people and converting relationships into outcomes.

This position is based on-site in one of these regions: San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, Denver, Greenwich, Miami, Atlanta, Boston, Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Dorado, Nashville, or Park City. The role includes evening and weekend events with high-expectation parents, elected officials, and entrepreneurs, plus frequent local travel. You will become the most networked individual in your city, and you will invest that capital in students. If that exchange feels purposeful rather than burdensome, apply.

What you will be doing

  • Creating and executing the regional event calendar: public open events, curated dinners segmented by city and grade level, and family retreats, multiple times per month within budget
  • Arranging venues, hosts, and vendors, then serving as live host during each event
  • Identifying current parents to serve as ambassadors, arming them with authentic narratives, and pairing them with prospective families and campus tours
  • Establishing connections with municipal officials and corporate leaders, and converting those relationships into event venues, campus launch support, and opportunities for students
  • Pairing enrolled families into parent circles and students into mentorships, expert-led masterclasses, and professional internships, and integrating graduating families into the alumni network within 30 days
  • Recording every event, introduction, and referral source in the CRM (customer relationship management platform) to ensure "doors opened per family" is measurable and accurate

What you will NOT be doing

  • Purchasing growth. No paid advertising, no media budget, no impression or lead-generation metrics
  • Managing brand narrative or centralized campaigns; that belongs to Marketing
  • Handling admissions logistics, conducting tours, or managing enrollment documentation; Admissions and Family Success own that
  • Operating a campus on a daily basis, or managing the physical facility
  • Presenting raw attendance figures and headcount as if a filled room were the objective
  • Waiting for a finalized playbook, a template, or additional staff before launching

Key responsibilities

Drive people-driven referrals as the primary source of enrollment growth in your region.

Candidate requirements

  • 5+ years creating communities or relationship-driven programs in K-12 education, membership organizations, or similar network businesses, where growth originated from people: referrals, members, congregations, chapters, alumni, or a client portfolio, with quantifiable results
  • Personally planned and executed 20+ events spanning the full spectrum, from intimate curated dinners to 100+ attendee open events, with full budget responsibility
  • Established and sustained relationships with public officials or corporate executives that delivered specific, identifiable value
  • Consistent CRM practitioner; tracking relationships, attributions, and activities is already standard practice
  • Currently resides in, or willing to relocate to, one of these regions: San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, Denver, Greenwich (CT), Miami, Atlanta, Boston, Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Dorado (PR), Nashville, or Park City (UT)
  • Eligible to work in the US without requiring visa sponsorship

Nice to have

  • Led regional growth, community, or partnership initiatives for a network-structured organization: a school network, membership club, franchise, or faith or civic body
  • Developed and leveraged a high-trust relationship portfolio as a client-facing leader in wealth management, consulting, or business development
  • Advanced through admissions, advancement, community organizing, or hospitality, and consistently served as the institutional representative and host
  • Pre-existing connections with local government or the business ecosystem in your city
  • Deep understanding of how families navigate high-stakes education choices
