Description

The most supportive action you can take for a student who reaches 99% of their weekly target is to refuse to accept it as complete. Not out of indifference, but because you know they can finish the job, and dropping the standard is the real disappointment.

You are not a classroom teacher. At Alpha, academic learning happens through AI-powered adaptive apps. No lessons at the board. No textbooks. No chalk talks. Motivation and life skills—the elements most schools push to the sidelines—are your entire focus.

Imagine a typical Tuesday. Half your hours are spent running one-hour workshops for a K-8 group on topics like public speaking, focus, and delivering and accepting constructive feedback. The other half, you work one-on-one or in small clusters with those same students, review their Coachbot data, and drive each one toward 100% completion of their weekly app targets, leveraging school currency, leaderboards, and the trust you've established to overcome hesitation.

Your quarterly success hinges on three metrics: all students in your cohort complete their weekly app targets, all students pass the Test2Pass mastery verification for every workshop, and at least 90% report that they love you. Fall short on any single metric, and you've missed the mark.

The reward comes the day a student who spent September convinced they were terrible at math asks you to increase their target.

This is a full-time, on-site position at one of Alpha's campuses. We hire nationally, so job listings may appear in nearby cities where a campus does not yet exist.

Current vacancies for this salary band are located in Scottsdale, AZ; Oklahoma City and Tulsa, OK; Nashville, TN; Dallas, Plano, Fort Worth, Houston, and Brownsville, TX; Springfield, MA; and Park City, UT.

If you're drawn to a different Alpha campus, apply regardless and indicate your preferred location—we'll evaluate you for the relevant opening.

If you have experience coaching youth sports, leading a camp group, or tutoring a child on the verge of quitting, the final step before an offer is spending a full day on campus coaching actual Alpha students. If that day excites you most, submit your application today.

What you will be doing

  • Facilitating one-hour life-skills workshops for K-8 groups on public speaking, focus, and the exchange of constructive feedback
  • Conducting daily one-on-one and small-group coaching sessions that drive every student to 100% of their weekly app targets, using Coachbot data and Alpha's motivational tools (school currency, leaderboards)
  • Delivering the Test2Pass mastery check for each life skill, then re-coaching students who do not pass until they achieve mastery
  • Customizing the workshop curriculum and creating new sessions when you identify a need, ensuring the content resonates with both kindergarteners and eighth graders
  • Serving as both the adult who maintains the standard and the adult your students voluntarily confide in

What you will NOT be doing

  • Presenting lessons at a whiteboard, designing math and reading curricula, or grading assignments; academic content is delivered through the apps
  • Conducting standardized test preparation or being held accountable for class-wide exam results
  • Managing parent meetings, emails, and grievances; campus leadership handles all parent communication
  • Controlling behavior in a group of 30 students simultaneously; cohorts are kept small and behavior work is one-on-one coaching
  • Overseeing children at computers passively; motivation work here is direct and interpersonal

Key responsibilities

Guarantee that every student in your K-8 cohort completes their weekly learning targets, achieves mastery in each life skill, and finishes the year reporting they loved school.

Candidate requirements

  • Available to work on-site at an Alpha campus in Scottsdale, AZ; Oklahoma City and Tulsa, OK; Nashville, TN; Dallas, Plano, Fort Worth, Houston, and Brownsville, TX; Springfield, MA; or Park City, UT - relocation assistance provided

  • Minimum of 3 years of direct work with K-8 (elementary and middle school) students: classroom instruction, tutoring, sports coaching, camp leadership, or youth programming
  • Comfortable allowing adaptive learning software to handle academic instruction while you focus on motivation and life-skills coaching
  • A track record of high personal achievement, whether academic, athletic, or professional, that made maintaining rigorous standards a reflex rather than an act
  • Stage presence capable of engaging a room of 12-year-olds for an hour without needing to raise your voice
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without requiring visa sponsorship

Nice to have

  • Youth sports coaching, debate, theater, camp leadership, or after-school program experience where you were directly responsible for students achieving a defined objective

  • Regular use of generative AI platforms such as ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini
