The most meaningful support you can offer a child who achieves 99% of their target is to refuse to accept it as complete. If that principle unsettles you, this role is not a fit. At Alpha, academic learning occurs through AI-driven applications. No traditional lectures. No textbooks. Half of your workday is spent facilitating one-hour life-skills sessions focused on public speaking, concentration, and constructive feedback. The remaining half involves sitting with students individually or in small groups, analyzing their progress via Coachbot data, and driving each one toward 100% completion of their weekly app targets. You will not follow a rigid script—workshops provide a foundation, but the most effective guides modify them and create new content when needed.

Success in any given quarter means every student in your cohort completes their weekly app objectives, passes the Test2Pass for all life-skills modules, and 90% or more report that they value your guidance. Falling short on any of these three metrics is falling short of the role. In your first year, you internalize the operational framework; as you demonstrate your ability to uphold standards, advancement to Lead Guide becomes available, where you mentor new hires while continuing direct student engagement.

If you are drawn to conventional teaching methods, prefer structured curriculum delivery, or see warmth and rigor as opposing forces, this position will not suit you. If your background includes athletic coaching, camp counseling, tutoring where you refused to let students give up, or performing for young audiences, the final stage before an offer is a full on-site day coaching actual Alpha students. What you will be doing

  • Facilitating one-hour life-skills sessions for K-8 groups on public speaking, concentration, feedback literacy, and other foundational competencies, modifying the playbook and creating new sessions when you identify needs
  • Conducting daily individual and small-group coaching sessions that drive every student toward 100% weekly app completion, leveraging Coachbot analytics, Alpha's reward structures (school currency, leaderboards), and your rapport with each child to overcome resistance
  • Delivering the Test2Pass (Alpha's mastery-based evaluation) for each life skill, and supporting students who do not initially pass until mastery is achieved
  • Adjusting your approach across a broad developmental spectrum, from kindergarteners requiring dynamic engagement and physical activity to eighth graders needing candid dialogue and firm accountability
  • Serving as the authority figure who maintains standards while also being the adult students trust and seek out; care creates the foundation for challenge, and challenge signals your confidence in their potential

What you will NOT be doing

  • Delivering traditional instruction at a whiteboard; academic content is embedded in the applications, not delivered by you
  • Creating curriculum materials from the ground up; you animate an existing playbook through energy and narrative skill
  • Passively monitoring students on computers; motivation in this environment is direct, individualized, and sustained
  • Reducing a weekly target to enable a student to reach it; when a child falls behind, the solution is supporting the child, not adjusting the goal
  • Evaluating assignments, conducting standardized test preparation, or handling parent outreach; Campus Leads manage family communication, and the other tasks do not exist in this model

Key responsibilities

Guarantee that every student in your K-8 cohort completes their weekly learning targets, achieves mastery in each life skill, and finishes the year reporting that they valued your support.

Candidate requirements

  • Willing to work on-site at an Alpha campus in Denver, CO; Atlanta, GA; Oklahoma City, OK; Tulsa, OK; Nashville, TN; Austin, TX; Brownsville, TX; Fort Worth, TX; Houston, TX (Central, South, or The Woodlands); Park City, UT; or Toronto, Canada (relocation assistance provided)
  • Bachelor's degree in any discipline
  • At least 3 years of direct experience working with K-8 students (classroom instruction, coaching, tutoring, camp leadership, or youth program management)
  • A concrete example you can articulate of driving a K-8 student toward a challenging goal: the objective, your actions, and the result
  • Comfort allowing AI to deliver instructional content while you concentrate on motivation and life-skills development
  • Daily use of generative AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude)
  • Legal authorization to work in the US without visa sponsorship (or in Canada for the Toronto location)

Nice to have

  • Background in youth sports coaching, debate programs, camp leadership, theater, or extracurricular programs where you held direct accountability for motivating children toward defined objectives
  • Personal track record of significant achievement (academic, athletic, or career-related), such that holding others to rigorous standards is an ingrained practice, not an adopted stance
  • Narrative ability and commanding presence sufficient to engage a room of 12-year-olds for an hour without needing to escalate volume
  • Demonstrated success converting disengaged or reluctant students into committed participants
