Reading Interventionist   $150,000 USD/year

Description

  • On-site position at an Alpha campus in Austin, TX or Scottsdale (Phoenix), AZ — support for relocation available
  • $150,000 annual salary
  • Full-time role

Traditional elementary schools reduce expectations when students face challenges. Your approach is different. You hold the conviction that a six-year-old possesses untapped potential far beyond what conventional classrooms demand, and you have leveraged data to validate this belief repeatedly.

Alpha operates on a two-hour learning framework. Students engage with adaptive applications for academic instruction during morning hours, freeing your schedule for the interventions that truly transform lives: building motivation, developing life skills, delivering coaching, and establishing accountability. You take direct ownership of a K-3 student cohort while simultaneously coaching the Guides—Alpha's designation for the adults who mentor and inspire students—who oversee their day-to-day advancement. Your role is hands-on daily, not administrative oversight from a separate office.

Your typical day rotates among three core activities. You analyze performance metrics and Coachbot analytics to identify which students and Guides require intervention. You conduct targeted coaching sessions that equip individuals with concrete next actions rather than generalized affirmation. And you command the focus of rooms filled with five- to nine-year-olds during workshops addressing public speaking, concentration, or the exchange of constructive feedback.

When you identify effective strategies, you document them. The playbooks you develop establish the benchmark that all other Guides implement, expanding your influence from a single cohort to the entire grade level. Demonstrating your capacity to replicate this excellence at scale is your pathway to expanded leadership responsibility.

If you view lowering standards as compassion, this position is not for you. If you see raising them as an act of respect, submit your application.

What you will be doing

  • Providing coaching to Guides and students through analysis of performance data, classroom observation, and direct feedback, while maintaining accountability to quantifiable objectives for both groups
  • Leading one-hour live workshops for K-3 students focused on life skills including public speaking, concentration, teamwork, perseverance, accountability, and constructive feedback exchange
  • Conducting individual and small-group motivational sessions that align each child's aspirations and interests with tangible academic achievement
  • Creating and iterating on playbooks that convert your most effective practices into systematic processes other Guides can implement reliably
  • Training Guides on these playbooks and demonstrating facilitation excellence to maintain standards as the team expands

What you will NOT be doing

  • Providing direct academic instruction or traditional lecturing; adaptive applications handle content delivery while you coach people
  • Reducing expectations in response to student difficulty
  • Managing remotely as instructional coaches and principals typically do; you remain embedded daily with your cohort
  • Managing campus-wide budget, operations, and parent relations; a Campus Lead handles these responsibilities so you can concentrate on student and Guide performance
  • Advocating for traditional teaching approaches or implementing conventional K-12 curricula

Key responsibilities

Fulfill Alpha's three commitments to every K-3 student: they develop a love for school, achieve learning at twice the typical rate, and cultivate outstanding life skills and self-sufficiency.

Candidate requirements

  • Available to work on-site at an Alpha campus in Austin, TX or Scottsdale (Phoenix), AZ; support for relocation is available
  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Psychology, Business, Organizational Leadership, Child Development, or related discipline
  • Minimum 5 years of experience working with elementary-aged children (approximately ages 5 to 9)
  • History of leading a team of 5 or more individuals, with authority to make hiring and performance-based removal decisions
  • Background in building, launching, or substantially scaling a program, team, school, or initiative from inception, rather than managing an established one
  • Comfortable operating in an educational environment that rejects conventional teaching methodologies
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States

Nice to have

  • Master's degree in a relevant discipline
  • Demonstrated history of using metrics, dashboards, or analytics to identify issues and generate measurable improvement
  • Experience coaching or managing other adults toward quantifiable results, beyond individual contribution
  • Background in youth development, camp leadership, competitive coaching, tutoring, or enrichment programs where motivation played a central role
  • Confidence and proficiency in facilitating sessions or public speaking before groups of young children
