Educational Technology Specialist   $100,000 USD/year

Description

  • On-site campus locations: Phoenix, Arizona; Tampa, Florida; Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Austin, Texas; Fort Worth, Texas; Houston (South Houston or The Woodlands), Texas; Plano, Texas; Park City (Salt Lake City), Utah
  • Full-time annual salary of $100,000, with weekly pay
  • Health, dental, and vision coverage begins on day one
  • Relocation assistance available

You have invested years developing expertise in structured literacy. When a student makes a miscue, you immediately identify the phonemic gap requiring attention. Yet you have witnessed the educational system underutilize that skill: classrooms with 25 or more students, inflexible pacing calendars, standardized curricula that disregard what running records reveal. If you have considered how much faster students could progress with instruction aligned to diagnostic data, this opportunity merits your attention.

Alpha School operates a 2-Hour Learning model that combines AI-adaptive technology with specialized human teaching. Academic coursework is completed independently by students using personalized applications. Lectures, textbooks, and pacing guides do not exist. Your function centers on the irreplaceable human element: small-group reading workshops where you create and implement structured literacy instruction matched to each student's phonics and decoding stage. AI-generated performance data informs session planning, real-time adjustments, and outcome tracking through fluency gains, accuracy progress, and decoding milestones.

In addition to reading workshops, you will facilitate motivation sessions that sustain K-2 student engagement with learning objectives. You serve as coach and advocate—the person who remembers each student's name, interests, and precise reading progress. The performance benchmark: 100% of students achieve weekly targets, and 90% or more report they value working with their Guide. This position prioritizes measurable outcomes over content coverage, with results visible and quantifiable each week. As Alpha grows into additional campuses, the instructional framework you develop becomes the national standard for reading education.

If you are convinced that structured literacy achieves optimal results when personalized, informed by data, and taught by someone who connects authentically with young learners, this role operationalizes that conviction. Submit your application today.

What you will be doing

  • Creating and facilitating small-group reading workshops centered on systematic phonics, decoding, and writing for K-2 students
  • Conducting and evaluating running records to determine each student's reading stage and inform targeted instruction
  • Using AI-generated student performance data to modify instruction during sessions, not only in advance planning
  • Facilitating motivation sessions that support students in progressing through learning applications and achieving 100% of weekly targets
  • Tailoring instruction within focused reading groups according to individual learning profiles and requirements

What you will NOT be doing

  • Implementing a commercial reading program or scripted lesson plans (you create lessons using student data)
  • Delivering instruction to an entire classroom (all teaching occurs in small, targeted groups)
  • Teaching core academic subjects (math, science, and other content areas are completed by students independently through adaptive applications)
  • Operating within a conventional classroom schedule featuring bells, transitions, and uniform pacing calendars
  • Evaluating homework assignments or issuing report cards (progress is monitored via app analytics and running records)

Key responsibilities

Provide structured literacy instruction that produces measurable acceleration in K-2 reading performance across phonics, fluency, and decoding domains.

Candidate requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in any discipline
  • Master's degree in reading instruction OR certification in structured literacy (Orton-Gillingham, Wilson Reading System, IMSE, CERI, LETRS, Neuhaus, UFLI, or equivalent)
  • 2+ years of full-time K-2 structured reading instruction in a school or clinical environment using systematic phonics or structured literacy, completed within the past 5 years
  • Demonstrated experience designing original reading lessons (not exclusively dependent on published programs)
  • Willingness to integrate AI and adaptive learning platforms for instructional planning and analysis of student data
  • Willingness to work on-site at an Alpha School campus in one of the specified locations
  • Willingness to instruct all K-2 students, not limited to struggling readers
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without requirement for visa sponsorship

Nice to have

  • Background using AI or adaptive learning platforms (e.g., Lexia, i-Ready, Amira) for instructional planning or analysis of student data
  • Documented history of measuring and communicating specific reading outcomes from interventions (e.g., fluency improvement in WCPM, decoding stage progression)
  • Experience in non-traditional or innovative educational settings (charter schools, micro-schools, Montessori, hybrid models)
  • Proficiency in English and Spanish
