Education Coach   $120,000 USD/year

Description

  • $120,000 annual W2 compensation, distributed weekly; comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage begins on day one
  • On-site position at an Alpha K-8 school in Beverly Hills, CA; La Jolla (San Diego), CA; Palo Alto, CA; Piedmont, CA; Santa Monica, CA; South Bay (LA), CA; Greenwich, CT; Boca Raton, FL; Fort Lauderdale, FL; Miami, FL; Miami Beach, FL; Palm Beach Gardens, FL; Chicago, IL; Boston, MA; Raleigh, NC; Charlotte, NC; Portland, OR; or Seattle, WA (relocation assistance available)

This is not a teaching role. It is a motivation role.

The kindest thing you can do for a student who reached 99% of their target is to say it is not finished. If that principle feels uncomfortable, this role is not for you. If it energizes you because maintaining high expectations is how you communicate belief in a student's potential, read on.

Alpha students complete their academic learning through AI-driven applications. No traditional lectures. No physical textbooks. Roughly 60% of your time will be spent facilitating one-hour life-skills workshops covering topics like public speaking, focus, and constructive feedback. Approximately 30% of your time involves sitting with students individually or in small groups, analyzing their progress via Coachbot analytics, and guiding each one toward their weekly app targets. The remaining 10% is dedicated to reviewing performance data and converting those insights into actionable coaching strategies for the following week. You will not simply follow a script; workshops provide a framework, and top performers in this position customize them and create new ones when they identify unmet needs.

A successful semester means at least 90% of students in your cohort achieve their weekly app targets, demonstrate quantifiable life-skill improvement on Test2Pass, and rate their experience with you at 4 out of 5 or higher. Falling short on any of these three metrics means the role was not fulfilled. Once you demonstrate your ability to uphold these standards, you become eligible for advancement to Lead Guide — mentoring newer Guides while continuing to manage a cohort — and eventually to Campus Lead, where you oversee an entire school and manage parent relationships.

If you prefer traditional classroom teaching, expect a curriculum to be provided in full, or see warmth and rigorous standards as incompatible, this position will not suit you. If your background includes athletic coaching, camp counseling, tutoring where you refused to let a student give up, or performing in front of middle schoolers, the final step before receiving an offer is spending a full day on campus coaching actual Alpha students. If that prospect is what excites you most, submit your application now.

What you will be doing

  • Facilitating one-hour life-skills workshops for K-8 cohorts covering public speaking, focus, feedback exchange, and other essential skills, modifying the existing framework and creating new sessions when you identify a need
  • Conducting daily individual and small-group motivation sessions that drive every student toward their weekly app targets, leveraging Coachbot analytics, Alpha's incentive structures (school currency, leaderboards), and your personal connection with each student to overcome resistance
  • Administering Test2Pass (Alpha's mastery-based life-skills assessment) and coaching students who fall short until they achieve mastery
  • Adjusting your coaching approach across a broad age spectrum, from kindergarteners requiring high energy and physical activity to 8th graders needing direct conversations and accountability
  • Serving as the adult who maintains high standards and the adult students trust and confide in; earning their trust through warmth gives you the credibility to push, and pushing demonstrates your confidence in their abilities

What you will NOT be doing

  • Delivering whiteboard lectures; academic instruction is embedded in the applications, not delivered by you
  • Creating curriculum materials from the ground up; you animate an established playbook with energy and narrative skill
  • Passively monitoring students working on computers; motivation in this model is active, individualized, and persistent
  • Reducing a weekly target to make it easier for a student to succeed; when a student falls behind, the solution is increased effort from the student, not adjusted expectations
  • Evaluating homework, conducting standardized test preparation, or handling parent communications; Campus Leads manage parent-facing responsibilities, and the other tasks do not exist in this model

Key responsibilities

Guarantee that every student in your K-8 cohort reaches their weekly learning targets, achieves mastery in each life skill, and finishes the year expressing genuine affection for you.

Candidate requirements

  • Willing to work in-person at an Alpha campus in Beverly Hills, CA; La Jolla (San Diego), CA; Palo Alto, CA; Piedmont, CA; Santa Monica, CA; South Bay (LA), CA; Greenwich, CT; Boca Raton, FL; Fort Lauderdale, FL; Miami, FL; Miami Beach, FL; Palm Beach Gardens, FL; Chicago, IL; Boston, MA; Raleigh, NC; Charlotte, NC; Portland, OR; or Seattle, WA (relocation support provided)
  • Bachelor's degree in any subject
  • At least 3 years working directly with K-8 students (classroom teaching, coaching, tutoring, camp counseling, or youth program leadership)
  • A specific example you can describe of motivating a K-8 student to a hard goal: the goal, what you did, and the outcome
  • Willingness to let AI handle the instructional content while you focus on motivation and life-skills coaching
  • Legal right to work in the US without visa sponsorship

Nice to have

  • Experience in youth athletics coaching, debate, camp leadership, drama, or after-school programs where you were directly responsible for motivating kids toward specific goals
  • Personal history of high achievement (academic, athletic, or professional), such that holding others to a hard bar is a pattern, not a posture
  • Storytelling and stage presence strong enough to hold a room of 12-year-olds for an hour without raising your voice
  • Track record of turning disengaged or resistant students into active participants
