Director of Strategic Parent Engagement   $200,000 USD/year

Description

You excel in fast-moving startup environments. You have a proven record with high-net-worth clients who demand concierge-level attention. You authentically believe AI can transform education and are eager to champion that vision to doubters. If any of this feels daunting, this position is not the right fit.

Alpha is not a conventional school. We are a technology startup demonstrating that every child has exceptional potential. Our students complete core academics in only two hours daily through AI-driven applications, dedicating the remainder of their time to practical competencies: public speaking, analytical reasoning, collaborative challenges, and meaningful projects. No traditional lectures. No unnecessary assignments. Only accelerated progress and top 1% performance nationally. Families expect premium, personalized service. You will consistently advocate for this approach against concerns about screen exposure, traditional schooling proponents, and "this seems implausible" resistance.

During the launch phase through year one, this functions as an enrollment-focused sales position. You control the entire pipeline from initial inquiry through executed enrollment contracts, managing conversion metrics and CRM systems. We will not launch a campus without a minimum of 25 enrolled students. Achieving that threshold is your responsibility. You will deliver compelling information sessions, facilitate individual campus visits, pursue follow-up persistently, and finalize enrollments. After reaching 25 students and onboarding an admissions director, your priorities transition to serving as the campus's lead parent relations executive. You will cultivate loyalty, address concerns with premium service standards, and transform satisfied families into vocal champions who attract others.

This position offers significant trust and independence with transparent expectations. You will operate independently without extensive administrative infrastructure, marketing resources, or established protocols. Strategies evolve based on evidence. Systems are emerging. You will create them. The majority of your workday will occur beyond the campus facility (coffee consultations, networking lunches, Chamber of Commerce participation) rather than at a workstation. You will maintain visibility throughout morning arrivals and afternoon departures. You will participate in evening family gatherings and occasional weekend student programming. A single incompatible family within a 25-student cohort can disrupt the entire community, making the ability to decline unsuitable applicants as critical as securing appropriate ones.

The benefit? You will observe transformations rarely witnessed by educators: doubtful parents evolving into passionate advocates, reserved students presenting confidently before adult audiences, families selecting your campus over prestigious private institutions. You will create something substantial from inception and control the outcomes.

If you are convinced that most schools underserve children and a superior alternative exists, this is your opportunity to demonstrate it.

RECRUITING FOR THESE LOCATIONS:

  • CA: Santa Barbara, Palo Alto, Piedmont (East Bay), & Lake Forest (Orange Co.)
  • MD: Bethesda
  • TX: Austin, Fort Worth (DFW)
  • WA: Kirkland (Seattle)

This is an on-site position in the cities listed above, with regional travel as required. Relocation support is provided for candidates with definite relocation commitments and schedules.

What you will be doing

  • Control the enrollment sales pipeline during years 0-1, managing the journey from inquiry through signed contracts, with conversion goals and CRM oversight until the 25-student milestone is achieved
  • Deliver information sessions and facility tours that persuade interested families while strategically declining misaligned prospects (declining unsuitable applicants is equally important as accepting appropriate ones)
  • Function as the principal liaison for high-net-worth households investing $40K+ annually, delivering concierge-level service that transforms parents into vocal supporters
  • Establish community presence through consistent on-campus availability during morning arrivals (7-9am) and afternoon departures (2-4pm), while dedicating most workdays to external activities including coffee consultations, networking initiatives, and community collaborations
  • Advocate for Alpha's AI-driven educational approach to questioning parents concerned about screen exposure and non-traditional methodologies
  • Mobilize parent advocates through outstanding experiences that inspire families to actively recruit their social networks

What you will NOT be doing

  • Maintaining standard 9-5 schedules (early morning availability, late afternoon presence, and evening programming are mandatory)
  • Implementing pre-existing playbooks and standardized procedures (you will create operational systems within a startup context)
  • Depending on administrative personnel, marketing departments, or enrollment assistance (you operate independently)
  • Enrolling every applicant family (strategic selectivity is an essential capability)
  • Working primarily from a desk (this position demands consistent community engagement and relationship cultivation)

Key responsibilities

Control enrollment sales during years 0-1, then transition focus to cultivating parent relationships that generate advocates and fuel organic referral growth.

Candidate requirements

  • Currently reside within a commuting distance of one of these campuses OR willing to relocate within 60 days (preference for existing local connections): Santa Barbara, CA; Palo Alto, CA; Piedmont, CA; Lake Forest, CA; Bethesda, MD; Austin, TX; Fort Worth, TX; or Kirkland, WA.
  • Legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
  • 5+ years in a role that involved working with high-net worth clients in a consultative sales or high-touch customer experience role (such as private school enrollment/admissions, luxury sales, hospitality, philanthropy, etc.)
  • Demonstrated enrollment/sales funnel success with conversion metrics you can discuss
  • Executive presence and communication skills to earn trust and guide sophisticated decision-making with affluent families
  • Entrepreneurial self-starter comfortable as a solo operator in a startup environment
  • Genuine enthusiasm for AI-powered education, with comfort defending the model to skeptical parents who question screen time and non-traditional approaches
  • Availability for flexible hours: early mornings (7-9am), late afternoons (2-4pm), evening events (2-3x/month), and weekend activities

Nice to have

Outstanding candidates will possess at least one of the following:

  • Existing network in the local affluent community with established relationships
  • Private school or independent school enrollment/admissions leadership experience with proven results
  • Sales, business development, or fundraising track record with high-value clients
  • Previous startup or early-stage company experience navigating ambiguity and rapid change
  • Event planning and community organizing experience creating memorable experiences
  • Real estate, development, or major gift fundraising experience working with UHNW individuals

This is not conventional schooling, and this is not conventional parent relations work either.

At Alpha, parent advocacy functions as a strategic growth mechanism, not merely a support activity. You will facilitate high-stakes conversations, orchestrate conversion-focused events, and build confidence one household at a time. This requires command of both the narrative and the educational framework. You must understand precisely what distinguishes Alpha—and how to articulate that in persuasive terms.
