Sports Mentor   $150,000 USD/year

Description

  • $150,000 annual salary, paid on a weekly basis. Full health, dental, and vision coverage starts day one
  • Based in Austin, TX (on-site role)
  • Relocation assistance available

You've already reached the pinnacle of competitive sport—Olympian, World Champion, or D1 First Team All-American. The discipline required to win at that level is second nature to you. The question is: can you turn those elite lessons into practical coaching methods that drive students to achieve at the highest level?

Texas Sports Academy is where your competitive career evolves into a mission of building champions. This isn't about observing from the sidelines—it's about active, daily coaching that pushes students past their perceived limits. You won't simply recount your achievements. Instead, you'll convert the principles of elite athletic performance into concrete motivational frameworks, deliver immersive resilience workshops, and lead rigorous training sessions where championship standards are non-negotiable.

Austin provides ideal conditions: year-round outdoor training opportunities, a dynamic sports-oriented culture, and a purpose-led environment where your world-class background directly fuels the development of tomorrow's leaders.

Lead with intention. Drive real transformation. Submit your application today.

What you will be doing

  • Conducting focused 1:1 coaching sessions where you convert elite athletic principles into concrete, actionable strategies tailored to individual students
  • Delivering high-energy morning assemblies that set the tone and engage the full student population
  • Leading interactive life-skills workshops that actively coach students in resilience, leadership, and goal execution through direct participation and real-time feedback
  • Directing structured afternoon sports training that embodies championship standards: creating drills, demanding maximum effort, correcting technique, and instilling grit and collaboration through athletic practice (not passive supervision)
  • Maintaining active engagement with every student across the school day: moving through the space during self-directed learning, stepping in to motivate when students hit obstacles, and engineering moments that unlock new levels of thinking

What you will NOT be doing

  • Serving as a passive presence or symbolic figure: this role demands active involvement. You'll be on the ground, running sessions, engaging directly with students, and making real-time coaching interventions.
  • Delivering conventional academic instruction or adhering to set lesson plans: academic content is delivered through adaptive technology. Your focus is on life coaching, motivational development, and teaching transferable skills via sport and mentorship.

Key responsibilities

In the Elite Guide role, you take ownership of transforming Austin-based student-athletes into high-performing individuals by channeling elite athletic discipline into everyday motivation, life-skills development, and rigorous sports training within a standards-driven school setting.

  • Drive daily student motivation by tracking individual progress, identifying obstacles, and guiding students toward well-defined academic and personal objectives.
  • Facilitate dynamic morning assemblies that establish a focused, high-performance mindset for the day ahead.
  • Conduct life-skills workshops centered on resilience, leadership, discipline, and accountability, using personal narrative, guided reflection, and hands-on student engagement.
  • Execute structured afternoon athletic training where practice routines, drills, and competitive exercises reinforce teamwork, perseverance, and elevated expectations.
  • Leverage student performance data and direct observation to identify and address disengagement, underperformance, or motivational gaps immediately.

Candidate requirements

  • We're seeking former elite athletes who have proven themselves at the very top of sport — Olympians, World Champions, pro players in the NFL, NBA, MLB, MLS, or NHL, or NCAA Division I All-Americans
  • Bachelor's degree in any subject
  • Proven experience using sport to mentor and coach life skills
  • Demonstrated motivational leadership in athletic, academic, or professional settings
  • Legal right to work in the U.S. without visa sponsorship
  • Willing to live in or relocate to Austin, TX
