Youth Leadership Coach   $100,000 USD/year

Description

  • Dripping Springs, TX (near Austin): full-time, on-site position
  • $100,000 annually, paid on a weekly basis; comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage begins day one
  • Relocation assistance provided

The most powerful way to support a struggling student is to maintain high expectations. If that resonates with you — and if you'd prefer to demonstrate that principle through outdoor challenges rather than classroom theory — this role is worth your attention.

This position differs fundamentally from traditional teaching. Waypoint Academy students don't attend conventional lectures or sit in classroom rows. Instead, they progress through adaptive learning technology at individual speeds while you coach them on persistence, concentration, and achieving objectives. Your primary work happens outdoors: facilitating one-hour life-skills sessions covering public speaking, teamwork, leadership, and problem-solving through adventure-based, experiential methods designed to be authentically challenging and engaging. Every session concludes with a Test2Pass mastery assessment — students must demonstrate the target skill in applied context before completion.

The remainder of your schedule centers on motivation sessions: brief, one-on-one coaching interactions informed by Coachbot analytics, where you engage students and propel them toward academic objectives. You'll witness measurable, immediate transformation as students shift from reluctant participants to self-assured performers. Your performance metrics are transparent: student satisfaction ratings (90% benchmark) and weekly goal completion (100% benchmark).

High performers advance into senior coaching positions: leading teams and influencing how the school motivates and cultivates students. Beyond that lies complete school ownership — encompassing outcomes, culture, and operations. Dripping Springs sits 30 minutes from Austin's technology sector, live music venues, and culinary scene, offering 300+ days of sunshine and year-round Hill Country outdoor recreation.

If you've consistently known there's a more effective way to connect with young people, submit your application now.

What you will be doing

  • Facilitating 1-hour outdoor life-skills sessions (public speaking, focus, leadership, teamwork) through nature-based, adventure-style programming using Waypoint's established curriculum and instructional framework
  • Conducting motivation sessions with students individually, leveraging Coachbot analytics and student profile information to guide them toward weekly academic objectives
  • Completing each session with a Test2Pass mastery assessment: students must demonstrate the targeted life skill in authentic context before the workshop concludes
  • Exercising outdoor safety judgment prior to every session: evaluating routes and weather conditions, conducting gear inspections, and adhering to Leave No Trace principles per Waypoint's field protocols
  • Energizing sessions through storytelling, creative adaptation, and the presence required to maintain engagement from K-12 learners both indoors and outdoors

What you will NOT be doing

  • Presenting academic lectures or conducting traditional classroom instruction. Students master academic content via adaptive EdTech platforms; your function is to coach them through obstacles, not deliver lessons.
  • Supervising students passively during screen time. You'll be actively leading outdoor workshops, conducting motivation sessions, and coaching students facing challenges.
  • Evaluating assignments, creating lesson plans from the ground up, or preparing students for standardized assessments.
  • Reducing expectations for struggling students. Goals remain authentic, mastery is the benchmark, and your responsibility is to coach students to success — not adjust standards.
  • Handling parent communication or administrative school functions. These duties fall under the Campus Lead's purview.

Key responsibilities

Enable K-12 students at Waypoint Academy to develop passion for learning, accelerate academic progress, and acquire enduring life skills.

Candidate requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in any discipline
  • Minimum 3 years of direct experience working with K-12 students in educational, camp, coaching, or outdoor education environments
  • Demonstrated history of exceptional personal achievement: competitive sports, academic distinction, or elite professional accomplishment
  • Strong public speaking ability with capacity to energize and command attention from large student groups, both indoors and outdoors
  • Innate capacity to build rapport with K-12 learners as an inspiring role model who challenges their growth, not as a peer who permits complacency
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without requiring visa sponsorship
  • Available to work on-site at the Waypoint Academy campus located in Dripping Springs, TX (near Austin)

Nice to have

  • Experience as a sports coach, outdoor expedition leader, camp director, or wilderness program facilitator
  • First aid or wilderness safety credentials
  • Knowledge of adaptive learning systems such as Khan Academy or IXL
  • Experience in youth development, experiential education, or outdoor youth programs
