Literacy Interventionist   $60,000 USD/year

Description

You recognize that pivotal moment. A student shifts from guessing words to reading with intention and clarity. They glance up and say, "I can do this." If you want that moment to be part of your daily work, this role may be the right fit.

Unbound operates as a remote-first online school focused on measurable progress, not compliance with seat-time requirements. We are rebuilding the learning experience so students advance more quickly, engage more deeply, and graduate with confidence that can be documented.

In most weeks, you will facilitate targeted intervention sessions. During the remaining time, you will conduct brief motivational check-ins designed to maintain momentum and support goal attainment. This position is designed for educators who value independence, rapid feedback, and visible results. It is not suited to those seeking scripted instruction or who prefer to avoid working closely with data.

If you are committed to helping struggling readers achieve significant improvement—and you value the flexibility to customize your methods for each learner—we would welcome the opportunity to connect.

What you will be doing

  • Create and facilitate virtual one-on-one and small-group reading intervention sessions for students in grades 3–8
  • Analyze reading assessment data to identify fluency and comprehension deficits and modify instruction promptly
  • Adapt instructional activities to accommodate varied reading levels, including targeted support for dyslexia and similar reading challenges
  • Monitor student progress systematically and apply findings to inform subsequent session planning
  • Conduct structured motivational check-ins aimed at fostering confidence, persistence, and ownership of learning growth

What you will NOT be doing

  • Deliver large-group, whole-class instruction or present lessons from a static curriculum
  • Implement a scripted program rigidly without responding to individual student needs and live feedback
  • Serve merely as a "software supervisor" lacking genuine instructional engagement and rapport
  • Depend on superficial incentives that fail to cultivate enduring intrinsic motivation

Key responsibilities

Take ownership of measurable fluency and comprehension growth for students in grades 3–8 by providing customized virtual interventions and motivational support that strengthens confidence.

Candidate requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in education, literacy, or a closely related field
  • Reading intervention certification or endorsement (e.g., Arizona Reading Specialist K-12 or equivalent state certification)
  • Specialized training or certification in dyslexia intervention (or related structured literacy approaches)
  • At least 2 years of experience delivering small-group or one-on-one reading interventions for students in grades 3–8
  • Experience supporting students with dyslexia or related reading difficulties
  • Ability to interpret progress monitoring data and use it to plan and adjust instruction
  • Strong ability to engage and manage students in a virtual setting through clear, motivating communication
  • Available to work in a hybrid capacity in Arizona as needed.
