Head Coach   $150,000 USD/year

Description

  • Based onsite in Dorado, Puerto Rico
  • $150,000 annual salary, distributed weekly

This role is designed for individuals who have moved beyond conventional schooling and are unwilling to compromise standards for convenience. Your work will involve coaching students and adults toward measurable, ambitious goals using clear benchmarks and data—not traditional lectures or lesson planning.

Alpha School is developing an AI-driven educational model in which students complete core academics in only two hours daily, dedicating their afternoons to cultivating practical life skills. Our commitment is both straightforward and rigorous: students genuinely enjoy school, accelerate their learning at twice the rate of peers, and develop essential life competencies. This position ensures that commitment becomes reality for every K–8 student at our Dorado location.

You will remain actively engaged. Your responsibilities include facilitating one-hour life skills workshops, conducting structured sessions that motivate students to progress through academic applications, and providing Guides with actionable, direct coaching backed by concrete improvement steps. This is neither a conventional teaching position nor a detached leadership assignment. You will be held accountable for measurable outcomes, adherence to established protocols, and maintaining uncompromising standards.

If you are prepared to lead by example and cultivate a campus culture where results are achieved through effort and discipline, submit your application and demonstrate how you uphold high expectations without exception.

What you will be doing

  • Lead one-hour life skills workshops for K–8 students by preparing materials and executing activities in strict accordance with playbooks
  • Conduct structured motivation sessions designed to drive students forward in academic apps and achieve their targets
  • Monitor Guides during delivery and provide standards-based coaching that includes specific improvement actions and consistent follow-up
  • Apply objective, metrics-based judgment to maintain mastery standards, even in challenging circumstances
  • Work closely with campus staff on a daily basis to ensure reliable delivery of Alpha's 3 Promises

What you will NOT be doing

  • Deliver or tutor academic subjects using traditional classroom instruction
  • Develop lesson plans or create new curriculum
  • Improvise during workshops or deviate from established playbooks
  • Compromise mastery standards or adjust goals downward to create artificial "success"
  • Manage from behind a desk through administrative tasks while others engage directly with students

Key responsibilities

Ensure that every K–8 student at Alpha's Dorado campus reliably experiences Alpha's 3 Promises: they love school, learn 2× faster, and build life skills.

Candidate requirements

  • Authorization to work in Puerto Rico
  • Availability to work full-time on-site at the Dorado, Puerto Rico campus
  • Bachelor's degree
  • 5+ years of relevant experience coaching individuals toward ambitious outcomes
  • Background working with children ages 5–14 in coaching, motivation, or youth development contexts
  • Proven experience coaching or managing adult performance with defined standards and accountability
  • Effective verbal communication skills tailored to K–8 audiences
  • Capability to make data-driven decisions (leveraging metrics/analytics to establish direction and maintain standards)
  • High-standards approach with confidence delivering direct feedback and sustaining goals without compromise
