Performance Coach   $150,000 USD/year

Description

You understand that true care means holding students to the highest standard, not lowering expectations. Your background includes competition, achievement, or building something at a level most only observe from a distance: elite-level sports, graduating with distinction from a highly selective university, working at a top-tier firm, or launching a venture from the ground up. Now imagine channeling that intensity into a classroom of K-12 students who have never encountered someone with your credentials genuinely invested in their success, driving them toward standards they never imagined meeting. If the idea of maintaining elite expectations for students feels unreasonable, this opportunity isn't for you.

Alpha leverages AI-driven 1-on-1 instruction, allowing students to complete core academics in roughly two hours daily. The remaining time is dedicated to life skills, passion projects, and authentic development. At Alpha's most rigorous campuses, students require more than oversight. They need a credible mentor whose personal accomplishments demonstrate what's possible: someone capable of assessing group dynamics, establishing expectations, and guiding students through resistance, lack of focus, and uncertainty.

Teaching isn't your function. The AI manages instructional delivery. Your responsibility is motivation, coaching, and applying the same rigorous standards you've maintained for yourself. Forty percent of your time involves direct 1-on-1 and small-group coaching to identify obstacles and establish challenging goals. Another forty percent is spent facilitating structured life-skills workshops designed for mastery rather than engagement alone. The final twenty percent focuses on morning sessions that set daily expectations and reinforce a culture where average performance isn't acceptable.

Your trajectory here emphasizes depth over advancement. You begin by mastering Alpha's methodology and earning student trust. Within months, you become the person they allow to push them beyond self-imposed limits. The payoff isn't upward mobility. It's maintaining relationships with the same students across years, remaining in their corner as they mature. It's witnessing a student who avoided eye contact in September deliver a confident presentation to adults in May.

This position remains student-centered. Students are the objective, not a career stepping stone. If mission alignment, not résumé building, drives your interest in leaving your current role, submit your application now.

What you will be doing

  • Conducting 1-on-1 and small-group coaching sessions leveraging Coachbot analytics and student performance data to identify barriers, establish ambitious objectives, and maintain accountability for execution
  • Facilitating structured life-skills workshops designed for mastery, drawing on credible narratives from your own elite background, and evaluating mastery through Alpha's Test2Pass framework
  • Establishing campus-wide cultural expectations each morning through focused sessions that reinforce high-performance standards
  • Monitoring student development in real time and modifying coaching approaches based on data rather than intuition
  • Cultivating trusted mentorship relationships with students and families through consistent high standards and documented motivation strategies

What you will NOT be doing

  • Delivering lessons, creating curriculum, or evaluating assignments — Alpha's AI-powered academic platform manages instruction; your focus is motivation
  • Presenting to large classrooms of 30 students (your work centers on intensive coaching with small groups, not broadcast instruction)
  • Supervising other personnel or pursuing administrative advancement (this position prioritizes direct student impact over organizational management)
  • Attending traditional faculty meetings or dealing with institutional bureaucracy (your schedule remains student-focused)
  • Reducing standards to achieve targets (if a student reaches 99%, your role is determining what prevented them from achieving 100%)

Key responsibilities

Lead outstanding student motivation, development, and life-skill mastery at Alpha's most demanding campuses.

Candidate requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • At least one instance of exceptional achievement in a highly selective, globally recognized domain (examples: national or international competition medals, top-tier university with distinction, highly selective firm or fellowship, elite performing arts institution, or founding and scaling a successful venture)
  • At least 3 years of experience in student coaching, youth mentoring, athletic coaching, or leadership roles where you measurably raised others' performance
  • Willing to work in-person at an Alpha campus in Orange County, CA; Palo Alto, CA; San Francisco, CA; South Bay, CA; Greenwich, CT; Boca Raton, FL; Boston, MA; New York City, NY; or Kirkland (Seattle), WA (relocation support provided)
  • Legal right to work in the United States

Nice to have

  • Background in elite competitive athletics (varsity D1, national team, or professional level) with experience coaching or mentoring younger athletes
  • Experience in high-accountability environments like management consulting, investment banking, or military leadership
  • Track record of youth development through mentoring in non-academic settings (community organizations, after-school programs, sports camps)
  • Comfort presenting to and building trust with high-expectation families paying premium private school tuition
