Performance Coach   $150,000 USD/year

Description

  • On-site position at Alpha School campuses in New York City, NY; San Francisco, CA; or Santa Barbara, CA
  • Annual salary of $150,000, paid on a weekly basis. Health benefits begin on day one.
  • Relocation assistance provided

You hold the conviction that refusing to compromise standards is the most compassionate approach to student development. Your background includes competition, creation, or accomplishment at a tier most individuals encounter only through observation: elite-level sports, distinguished graduation from a top-ranked university, employment at a highly competitive organization, or a business you launched independently. Consider channeling that discipline into an environment where K-12 students gain access to someone of your caliber—someone committed to elevating them to benchmarks they previously considered unreachable. If maintaining elite expectations feels unreasonable to you, this opportunity is not a fit.

Alpha deploys AI-driven 1-on-1 instruction that enables students to complete core academic work in approximately two hours daily. The remainder of each day becomes available for developing life competencies, pursuing individual interests, and fostering authentic development. At Alpha's most rigorous campuses, students require more than oversight. They require a credible mentor whose personal track record establishes the benchmark: someone capable of assessing group dynamics, establishing norms, and guiding them through friction, distraction, and uncertainty.

Your responsibility is not instruction. It is to coach, challenge, and maintain the same rigorous standards you have applied to yourself. Forty percent of your time involves direct 1-on-1 and small-group coaching sessions focused on identifying obstacles and establishing ambitious objectives. Another forty percent is spent facilitating structured life-skills workshops designed for competency acquisition, not engagement. The final twenty percent centers on establishing daily expectations: purposeful morning sessions that build a culture rejecting mediocrity.

The progression emphasizes deepening impact rather than advancing into management. You begin by internalizing Alpha's methodology and earning student trust. Within months, you become the individual they respect enough to allow beyond their perceived limits. The return is not a title change. It is observing a student unable to maintain eye contact in September deliver a confident presentation to adults in May.

If you seek to leverage your elite background for impact beyond personal advancement, submit your application now.

What you will be doing

  • Conducting 1-on-1 and small-group coaching sessions utilizing Coachbot analytics and student performance data to identify barriers, establish ambitious objectives, and ensure accountability for execution
  • Facilitating structured life-skills workshops designed for competency mastery by drawing on credible narratives from your own elite background, then evaluating mastery via Alpha's Test2Pass framework
  • Establishing campus-wide cultural expectations each morning through purposeful kickoffs that communicate high-performance standards
  • Monitoring student development in real time and modifying coaching approaches based on evidence rather than intuition
  • Cultivating trusted mentorship relationships with students and families through consistent high standards and documented motivation strategies

What you will NOT be doing

  • Creating lesson plans, developing curriculum materials, or evaluating assignments (Alpha's academic system manages instruction; your focus is student motivation)
  • Presenting lectures to classroom groups of 30 students (your work centers on intensive coaching with small groups, not large-scale teaching)
  • Supervising additional personnel or pursuing advancement through administrative channels (this position prioritizes direct student influence, not organizational structure)
  • Attending faculty meetings or working through institutional bureaucracy (your schedule remains student-centered)
  • Compromising standards to meet performance indicators (if a student achieves 99%, your role is identifying what prevented 100%)

Key responsibilities

Drive exceptional student motivation, growth, and life-skill mastery at Alpha's highest-expectation campuses.

Candidate requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • At least one instance of exceptional achievement in a highly selective, globally recognized domain (examples: national or international competition medals, top-tier university with distinction, highly selective firm or fellowship, elite performing arts institution, or founding and scaling a successful venture)
  • At least 3 years of experience in student coaching, youth mentoring, athletic coaching, or leadership roles where you measurably raised others' performance
  • Willing to work in-person at an Alpha campus in New York City, NY; San Francisco, CA; or Santa Barbara, CA (relocation support provided)
  • Legal right to work in the United States

Nice to have

  • Background in elite competitive athletics (varsity D1, national team, or professional level) with experience coaching or mentoring younger athletes
  • Experience in high-accountability environments like management consulting, investment banking, or military leadership
  • Track record of youth development through mentoring in non-academic settings (community organizations, after-school programs, sports camps)
  • Comfort presenting to and building trust with high-expectation families paying premium private school tuition
