Performance Coach   $150,000 USD/year

Description

If you believe holding students to rigorous expectations is the greatest act of respect you can offer, read on. Your background includes achievement in a domain few ever reach: competitive athletics at an elite level, an honors degree from a top-tier institution, work at a highly selective organization, or a venture you launched and grew yourself. Now imagine channeling that discipline into a classroom of K-12 students who have never encountered someone with your credentials—someone unwilling to accept anything less than their best. If the idea of uncompromising standards feels too intense, this role is not for you.

Alpha leverages AI-driven 1-on-1 instruction to help students complete core academics in roughly two hours per day. This model creates time for life skills, passion projects, and meaningful development. At Alpha's most rigorous campuses, students require more than oversight. They need a credible mentor whose own accomplishments demonstrate what excellence looks like—someone who can assess group dynamics, establish expectations, and guide students through moments of resistance, distraction, and doubt.

Your role is not instructional. AI manages the teaching. Your responsibility is to inspire, coach, and apply the same exacting standards you've applied to yourself. Forty percent of your time involves direct 1-on-1 and small-group coaching sessions that identify obstacles and establish ambitious targets. Another forty percent is spent facilitating structured life-skills workshops designed for mastery rather than engagement alone. The final twenty percent is dedicated to morning kickoffs that set a campus-wide tone where excellence is non-negotiable.

The trajectory here emphasizes depth over advancement. You begin by mastering Alpha's framework and earning student trust. Within months, you become the person they rely on to push them beyond self-imposed limits. The payoff is not a title change. It's continuity with the same students over years, watching them mature with your guidance. It's seeing a student who avoided eye contact in the fall deliver a confident presentation to a room of adults by spring.

This position remains directly student-facing. Students are the purpose, not a stepping stone to management. If you're motivated by mission rather than résumé optics, apply now.

What you will be doing

  • Conducting 1-on-1 and small-group coaching sessions using Coachbot analytics and student performance data to identify obstacles, establish ambitious targets, and ensure accountability for execution
  • Facilitating structured life-skills workshops designed for mastery, drawing on credible stories from your own elite background, and evaluating mastery via Alpha's Test2Pass framework
  • Establishing the campus cultural standard each morning through focused kickoffs that communicate high-performance expectations across the student body
  • Monitoring student progress continuously and refining coaching approaches based on data rather than intuition
  • Cultivating trusted mentor relationships with students and their families through consistent high standards and documented motivation strategies

What you will NOT be doing

  • Delivering lessons, creating curriculum, or evaluating assignments — Alpha's AI-driven academic platform manages instruction; you manage motivation
  • Presenting to a classroom of 30 students (your work centers on high-touch coaching in small groups, not large-format teaching)
  • Supervising other staff or pursuing an administrative career path (this role focuses on direct student impact, not organizational advancement)
  • Attending faculty meetings or navigating institutional bureaucracy (your time remains concentrated on students)
  • Compromising standards to meet quotas (if a student achieves 99%, your role is to determine what prevented 100%)

Key responsibilities

Lead exceptional student motivation, development, and life-skill mastery at Alpha's highest-expectation campuses.

Candidate requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • At least one documented instance of exceptional achievement in a highly selective, globally recognized domain (examples: medals from national or international competition, honors degree from a top-tier university, position at a highly selective firm or fellowship, training at an elite performing arts institution, or founding and scaling a successful venture)
  • At least 3 years of experience in student coaching, youth mentoring, athletic coaching, or leadership positions where you demonstrably improved others' performance
  • Willing to work in-person at an Alpha campus in Santa Barbara, CA; Santa Monica, CA; San Francisco, CA; Greenwich, CT; Boston, MA; New York City, NY; or Seattle, WA (relocation support provided)
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States

Nice to have

  • Experience in elite competitive athletics (D1 varsity, national team, or professional level) with a history of coaching or mentoring younger athletes
  • Work history in high-accountability settings such as management consulting, investment banking, or military leadership
  • Proven youth development experience through mentoring outside academic contexts (community organizations, after-school programs, sports camps)
  • Confidence presenting to and earning trust from high-expectation families investing in premium private education
