Elite Sports Mentor   $150,000 USD/year

Description

  • On-site role at Alpha School campuses in New York City, NY; San Francisco, CA; or Santa Barbara, CA
  • $150,000 annual salary, distributed weekly. Health benefits begin day one.
  • Relocation assistance provided

You understand that the most compassionate act for a student is maintaining rigorous standards. Your background includes achievement most people only observe from a distance: elite-level athletics, graduation with honors from a top university, acceptance into a highly selective organization, or launching a venture from the ground up. Picture channeling that same rigor into a classroom of K-12 students who have never encountered someone with your credentials, someone willing to push them toward standards they never imagined reaching. If the concept of holding students to elite expectations feels too demanding, this role is not for you.

Alpha leverages AI-driven 1-on-1 instruction enabling students to complete core academics in approximately two hours daily. The remaining time is dedicated to life skills, passion projects, and meaningful development. At Alpha's most demanding campuses, students require more than oversight. They need a credible mentor whose personal accomplishments demonstrate what's possible: someone capable of reading group dynamics, establishing expectations, and guiding them through resistance, distraction, and uncertainty.

Your role is not instruction. It is coaching, challenging, and maintaining the same exacting standards you've applied to yourself. Forty percent of your time involves direct 1-on-1 and small-group coaching that identifies obstacles and establishes ambitious objectives. Another forty percent is dedicated to facilitating structured life-skills workshops designed for mastery rather than engagement. The final twenty percent is devoted to setting daily tone: purposeful kickoffs that create a culture where average performance is unacceptable.

The trajectory here emphasizes depth over management. You begin by mastering Alpha's methodology and earning student trust. Within months, you become the person they trust enough to push them beyond self-imposed limits. The compensation isn't a title upgrade. It's witnessing a student who avoided eye contact in September deliver a confident presentation to adults in May.

If you've been seeking a way to leverage your elite background for impact beyond personal achievement, submit your application now.

What you will be doing

  • Conducting 1-on-1 and small-group coaching sessions leveraging Coachbot analytics and student performance data to identify obstacles, establish ambitious objectives, and ensure student accountability for execution
  • Facilitating structured life-skills workshops designed for mastery by drawing on authentic examples from your own elite achievements, then evaluating mastery using Alpha's Test2Pass framework
  • Establishing campus-wide cultural expectations each morning through purposeful kickoffs that reinforce high-performance standards
  • Monitoring student advancement in real time and modifying coaching approaches based on evidence rather than intuition
  • Developing trusted mentoring relationships with students and their families through consistent high standards and documented motivation strategies

What you will NOT be doing

  • Creating lesson plans, developing curriculum, or evaluating assignments (Alpha's academic framework manages instruction; you manage drive)
  • Presenting to classrooms of 30 students (your work focuses on intensive coaching in small settings, not large-group instruction)
  • Supervising other staff members or pursuing administrative advancement (this position emphasizes direct student impact over organizational structure)
  • Attending faculty meetings or managing institutional bureaucracy (your schedule remains student-focused)
  • Reducing standards to achieve targets (if a student reaches 99%, your responsibility is identifying what prevented 100%)

Key responsibilities

Drive exceptional student motivation, growth, and life-skill mastery at Alpha's highest-expectation campuses.

Candidate requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • At least one documented instance of exceptional achievement in a highly selective, globally recognized field (examples: medals from national or international competitions, graduation with distinction from a top-tier university, acceptance into a highly selective firm or fellowship, training at an elite performing arts institution, or founding and growing a successful venture)
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in student coaching, youth mentoring, athletic coaching, or leadership positions where you demonstrably elevated others' performance
  • Willing to work on-site at an Alpha campus in New York City, NY; San Francisco, CA; or Santa Barbara, CA (relocation assistance available)
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States

Nice to have

  • Experience in elite competitive athletics (Division 1 varsity, national team representation, or professional competition) combined with coaching or mentoring experience with younger athletes
  • Background in high-accountability sectors such as management consulting, investment banking, or military leadership
  • Demonstrated youth development experience through mentoring in non-academic contexts (community organizations, after-school initiatives, sports camps)
  • Ability to present effectively to and establish rapport with high-expectation families investing in premium private education
