Elite Sports Mentor   $150,000 USD/year

Description

  • On-site at Alpha School locations: New York City, NY · Orange County (Lake Forest), CA · San Francisco, CA · Santa Barbara, CA
  • $150,000 annual salary, distributed weekly. Full health coverage begins immediately.
  • Relocation assistance provided

You've excelled in environments where most people don't survive. Elite competition, a distinguished degree from a top university, a position at a highly selective organization, or a company you founded and grew yourself. You understand what separates participation from real performance. Now consider applying that same rigor in a setting where K-12 students gain access to someone with your credentials—someone capable of raising their standards to levels they never imagined possible.

Alpha employs AI-driven 1:1 instruction that allows students to complete core academics in roughly two hours daily. The remaining time focuses on developing life skills, pursuing personal interests, and fostering meaningful growth. At Alpha's most demanding campuses, students require more than oversight. They need a credible mentor whose personal accomplishments define what excellence looks like: someone who understands group dynamics, establishes expectations, and guides them through obstacles like resistance, distraction, and doubt.

Your role is not to instruct in the traditional sense; it's to mentor, challenge, and enforce the same exacting standards you've applied to yourself. You'll dedicate 80% of your time to direct one-on-one and small-group mentoring sessions and structured life-skills training. The remaining 20% involves establishing the daily culture through purposeful openings that create an environment where average performance is unacceptable.

This trajectory isn't designed for upward mobility into management. It's centered on mastery and depth. You begin by absorbing Alpha's methodology and earning student trust. Within a few months, you become the person they rely on to push them beyond their perceived limits. The payoff isn't a title. It's witnessing a student who avoided eye contact in September deliver a confident presentation to adults in May.

If you want your elite credentials to generate impact beyond your personal achievements, submit your application now. If you require a pre-built syllabus, conventional classroom routines, or advancement into administration, this isn't the right fit.

What you will be doing

  • Conducting one-on-one and small-group mentoring sessions that identify individual obstacles, establish challenging objectives, and ensure accountability for execution
  • Leading structured life-skills training sessions designed for competency development, not engagement alone, drawing on authentic examples from your own elite background
  • Evaluating student competency using platforms like Test2Pass and monitoring progress through Coachbot analytics to refine mentoring approaches dynamically
  • Establishing the performance culture each morning via focused openings that communicate high-performance standards campus-wide
  • Cultivating trusted mentoring relationships with students and their families through rigorous expectations, reliability, and formalized motivation strategies

What you will NOT be doing

  • Creating lesson plans, developing curriculum, or evaluating assignments. Alpha's academic framework operates independently.
  • Presenting to large classrooms of 30 students. Your focus is intensive mentoring in small settings, not mass instruction.
  • Supervising other personnel or pursuing an administrative career path. This position centers on direct student influence, not organizational management.
  • Attending faculty meetings or dealing with institutional red tape. Your schedule remains dedicated to student engagement.
  • Compromising standards to meet quotas. If a student achieves 99%, your responsibility is to identify what prevented 100%.

Key responsibilities

Deliver outstanding student motivation, development, and life-skill competency at Alpha's most rigorous campuses.

Candidate requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • At least one documented instance of exceptional performance in a highly competitive, internationally recognized field (examples: medals from national or international competitions, distinguished degree from a top-tier university, position at a highly selective firm or fellowship, training at an elite performing arts institution, or founding and growing a successful venture)
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in student mentoring, youth coaching, athletic instruction, or leadership positions where you demonstrably improved others' performance
  • Availability to work on-site at an Alpha campus in New York City, NY; Orange County (Lake Forest), CA; San Francisco, CA; or Santa Barbara, CA
  • Authorization to work legally in the United States

Nice to have

  • History in elite competitive sports (Division I varsity, national team representation, or professional competition) with coaching or mentoring experience for younger athletes
  • Professional background in high-stakes environments such as management consulting, investment banking, or military command
  • Demonstrated success in youth development through mentoring outside traditional academics (community groups, after-school initiatives, athletic camps)
  • Confidence engaging with and earning credibility among high-expectation families investing in premium private education
