Director of Membership   $200,000 USD/year

Description

Most enrollment positions focus on driving numbers. This role is designed to uphold quality.

Alpha is creating one of the most forward-thinking school models globally. Our locations integrate demanding academics, technology-enabled instruction, and elevated expectations for both students and faculty. Students routinely exceed national learning benchmarks, supported by measurable data. Afternoons are reserved for deeper exploration, autonomy, and practical competency development. The model is effective. But its success depends on enrolling the right families.

This is your responsibility.

You will manage the complete enrollment process for a campus, beginning with initial inquiry and extending through onboarding. This is not a relay role. You are accountable for how families perceive us, how thoroughly they grasp the model, and whether enrollment choices are made with proper understanding. You will evaluate compatibility, facilitate meaningful discussions, and advise against enrollment when appropriate. Maximum enrollment is not the objective. Strategic alignment is.

We welcome applicants from high-end service sectors outside conventional education: independent schools, competitive programs, upscale hospitality, executive assistance, exclusive membership institutions, or entrepreneurial operators who have directly overseen sophisticated client experiences from beginning to end. What counts is your capacity to execute a detailed, phased process with discernment, precision, and accountability.

If your professional background centers on delivering exceptional service where credibility, confidentiality, and experiential quality represent the brand, this position will resonate—only directed toward work that produces measurable impact.

This is a full-time, salaried, on-site position. We are recruiting in La Jolla, Los Angeles, Marin County, Palo Alto, Piedmont, San Francisco, Santa Barbara, Santa Monica, South Bay. Relocation assistance is provided.

What you will be doing

  • Taking full ownership of the enrollment experience for prospective families, spanning initial contact to onboarding completion.
  • Facilitating exploratory conversations to evaluate compatibility before offering solutions or suggesting progression.
  • Overseeing 20+ concurrent family engagements across various enrollment phases, maintaining transparent tracking and timely follow-up.
  • Guiding campus visits, student shadow days, and enrollment dialogues that articulate results, standards, and ideal candidate profiles.
  • Keeping CRM and enrollment systems (HubSpot and SIS) current and precise to enable forecasting, prioritization, and consistent service delivery.

What you will NOT be doing

  • Employing transactional or aggressive sales methods.
  • Accepting families who lack alignment purely to satisfy enrollment targets.
  • Overseeing large teams or working through complex approval hierarchies.
  • Distributing responsibility for the family journey across multiple staff members.
  • Operating remotely. This position is on-campus by intention.

Key responsibilities

Lead and deliver a trust-centered, selective enrollment process that attracts aligned families while safeguarding the standards and effectiveness of the Alpha model.

Candidate requirements

  • 3+ years providing premium, individualized service in settings where service excellence directly influences brand perception (education, upscale hospitality, executive assistance, exclusive membership, or independently operated services).
  • Proven ownership of a complete client, admissions, or enrollment process spanning initial interaction through onboarding.
  • Experience managing 20+ simultaneous client, guest, or family relationships at varying stages, supported by a structured tracking approach.
  • Capacity to share specific instances of advisory decision-making, including occasions when you recommended against your offering due to poor fit.
  • Professional written correspondence experience with senior leaders, high-net-worth individuals, or discerning clientele.
  • Willingness to reside in or relocate within 60 days to one of these locations: La Jolla, CA; Los Angeles, CA; Marin County, CA; Palo Alto, CA; Piedmont, CA; San Francisco, CA; Santa Barbara, CA; Santa Monica, CA; or South Bay, CA.
  • Authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship.

Nice to have

  • Experience in competitive private school admissions or selective program recruitment.
  • Background in upscale hospitality, VIP client services, or executive support functions.
  • Experience designing or refining enrollment workflows, standard operating procedures, or service protocols.
  • Proficiency leveraging data and CRM analytics to enhance conversion quality, not merely velocity.
