Student-Athlete Coach   $60,000 USD/year

Description

This role is designed for someone ready to coach a group of student-athletes who need guidance and accountability — not traditional instruction. You won't be writing lesson plans, grading assignments, or delivering content. Instead, you'll focus on what coaching is truly about: building trust, driving accountability, and helping individuals exceed their own expectations.

Texas Sports Academy operates a virtual program in which student-athletes progress through self-paced academic applications while simultaneously building life skills and continuing their athletic development. Each week, your cohort participates in virtual one-on-one and small-group sessions led by you. You'll help them set priorities, maintain accountability, and identify disengagement early. The atmosphere you create in these sessions depends entirely on your ability to build trust and establish presence — the curriculum takes care of itself.

The role breaks down into three core areas: conducting coaching sessions that keep students moving forward, intervening proactively when performance data reveals a concern, and facilitating structured virtual workshops focused on mindset and life skills. This is a fully remote position based in Texas, requiring quarterly in-person attendance at events in Austin, Dallas, Houston, or San Antonio.

If you've worked with students or athletes in a coaching or mentoring capacity and found the most rewarding moments came from watching someone break through a self-imposed barrier, this role is for you.

What you will be doing

  • Facilitating virtual one-on-one and small-group coaching sessions to help student-athletes clarify priorities, maintain accountability, and sustain engagement
  • Tracking progress data from learning platforms and spotting signs of disengagement or academic gaps before they escalate
  • Stepping in directly when a student begins to fall behind — modifying your approach, restoring momentum, and guiding recovery
  • Facilitating structured virtual workshops centered on mindset, life skills, and personal growth, with student participation as the key indicator of effectiveness
  • Establishing trust with each student-athlete so that accountability discussions feel natural and earned, rather than forced

What you will NOT be doing

  • Teaching academic content or delivering lessons — students progress through self-directed apps; your role centers on engagement and execution
  • Creating lesson plans, grading work, or managing course logistics
  • Waiting for students to raise concerns — you'll analyze the data and take action first
  • Conducting sessions where students are physically present but mentally disengaged

Key responsibilities

Ensure virtual student-athletes remain engaged, make consistent academic progress, and develop the life skills required for success beyond the classroom.

Candidate requirements

  • You've coached or mentored students or athletes — paid or volunteer
  • You've led group sessions for students or athletes for at least 6 months
  • You've worked in a role where you set goals and tracked outcomes — and have the numbers to show for it (completion rates, performance improvements, or similar)
  • You're comfortable running virtual sessions on Zoom, Google Meet, or Teams, and have used a spreadsheet, LMS, or similar tool to track participant progress
  • You've used an AI tool — Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot, Perplexity, or similar — at least once and can tell us how
  • You're based in Texas and willing to attend one in-person event per quarter in Austin, Dallas, Houston, or San Antonio
  • You're eligible to work in the US without visa sponsorship

Nice to have

  • Experience with learning management systems (Google Classroom, Canvas, Schoology, or similar) or academic progress tracking tools
  • Comfort adapting your coaching approach to different motivation profiles — you know when to push, when to pull back, and when to listen
