Youth Coach   $120,000 USD/year

Description

  • $120,000 annual W2 compensation, distributed weekly; health, dental, and vision coverage begin day one
  • On-site placement at an Alpha K-8 school in Beverly Hills, CA; La Jolla (San Diego), CA; Palo Alto, CA; Piedmont, CA; South Bay (LA), CA; Greenwich, CT; Boca Raton, FL; Fort Lauderdale, FL; Miami Beach, FL; Palm Beach Gardens, FL; Chicago, IL; Raleigh, NC; Portland, OR (support for relocation available)

This is not a teaching role. Your job is to motivate.

The kindest thing you can do for a student who reached 99% of their target is to refuse to accept it as complete. If that standard troubles you, this role is not for you. If it energizes you—because maintaining high expectations is how you signal belief in a student's capacity—read on.

At Alpha, academic learning happens through AI-driven applications. No traditional lectures. No printed textbooks. Roughly 60% of your time is spent facilitating one-hour life-skills sessions on topics like public speaking, concentration, and constructive feedback. Approximately 30% of your time is dedicated to individual or small-group check-ins, where you analyze Coachbot performance data and guide each student toward their weekly app targets. The remaining 10% involves reviewing metrics and translating them into actionable coaching strategies for the week ahead. You will not follow a rigid script; session frameworks provide a foundation, and the most effective Guides modify them or create entirely new ones when needed.

Success is defined by three outcomes each semester: at least 90% of your cohort meets weekly app targets, demonstrates measurable improvement in life skills via Test2Pass, and rates their experience with you at 4 out of 5 or higher. Falling short on any single metric means the role has not been fulfilled. As you demonstrate your ability to uphold these standards, advancement to Lead Guide becomes possible—mentoring new Guides while continuing to lead a cohort—and eventually to Campus Lead, where you oversee an entire school and manage parent engagement.

If you prefer traditional classroom instruction, want ready-made lesson plans, or see warmth and rigor as incompatible, this position will not suit you. If your background includes athletic coaching, camp leadership, tutoring where you refused to let students give up, or performance work that commanded the attention of middle schoolers, the final stage before an offer is a full day on-site coaching actual Alpha students. If that prospect excites you, submit your application now.

What you will be doing

  • Facilitating one-hour life-skills sessions for K-8 groups covering public speaking, focus, feedback exchange, and other foundational competencies, modifying the existing framework and creating new content when you identify unmet needs
  • Conducting daily individual and small-group check-ins that drive every student toward their weekly app targets, leveraging Coachbot data, Alpha's reward structures (campus currency, performance rankings), and your personal rapport with each child to overcome disengagement
  • Delivering the Test2Pass (Alpha's competency-based evaluation) for each life skill, and continuing to coach students who do not achieve passing scores until mastery is demonstrated
  • Tailoring your approach across a broad developmental spectrum, from kindergarteners requiring high-energy, kinetic engagement to eighth graders needing candid conversation and firm accountability
  • Analyzing weekly cohort metrics within Coachbot, pinpointing students who are falling behind, and recalibrating your methods for the upcoming week based on performance indicators

What you will NOT be doing

  • Standing at a whiteboard delivering lessons; academic content is embedded in the applications, not delivered by you
  • Creating an entirely original curriculum; you begin with an established framework and personalize it through your own communication style and narrative techniques
  • Passively monitoring students on devices; motivation in this role is direct, relational, and persistent
  • Waiting for administrative clearance to support a student in need; if additional coaching time is required, you decide and implement immediately
  • Scoring assignments, preparing for standardized exams, or handling parent outreach; Campus Leads manage family communication, and the other tasks do not apply here

Key responsibilities

Guarantee that every student in your K-8 cohort achieves their weekly learning targets, attains mastery in each life skill, and finishes the year expressing genuine appreciation for your coaching.

Candidate requirements

  • Willing to work on-site at an Alpha campus in Beverly Hills, CA; La Jolla (San Diego), CA; Palo Alto, CA; Piedmont, CA; South Bay (LA), CA; Greenwich, CT; Boca Raton, FL; Fort Lauderdale, FL; Miami Beach, FL; Palm Beach Gardens, FL; Chicago, IL; Raleigh, NC; Portland, OR (support for relocation available)
  • Bachelor's degree in any field
  • Minimum of 3 years of direct experience working with K-8 students (teaching, coaching, tutoring, camp counseling, or youth program management)
  • A concrete example you can articulate of pushing a K-8 student toward a challenging objective: the objective itself, your actions, and the result
  • Comfort with AI-driven academic instruction while you concentrate on motivation and life-skills development
  • Authorization to work in the United States without requiring visa sponsorship

Nice to have

  • Background in youth sports coaching, debate programs, camp direction, theater, or extracurricular initiatives where you held direct accountability for driving student achievement toward defined goals
  • Demonstrated record of personal excellence (academically, athletically, or professionally), indicating that maintaining rigorous standards is ingrained, not performative
  • Narrative skill and classroom presence sufficient to engage a room of 12-year-olds for an hour without needing to escalate your volume
  • Proven ability to convert unmotivated or defiant students into engaged contributors
