Startup Coach   $250,000 USD/year

Description

Develop entrepreneurs, not curricula.

Most educators believe high school prepares students for what's ahead. We believe what's ahead begins today. Founders School is a four-year secondary institution for students unwilling to postpone building something significant until they're older. These students aren't working on simulated business exercises. They're creating actual companies, collaborating with experienced founders, becoming fluent in AI, and addressing problems that have real impact. Our expectations are high because our students are driven: launch a million-dollar enterprise, pinpoint challenges worth tackling, and achieve AI mastery ahead of most adults. Your responsibility is to make that drive endure.

You won't deliver lectures or dictate business strategy. Instead, you'll coach a cohort of young entrepreneurs daily, keeping them accountable, helping them navigate obstacles, and ensuring they maintain momentum when company-building becomes challenging. You'll recognize when to push them harder, when to offer support, and when to introduce them to the appropriate mentor or tool. The curriculum, Entrepreneurs-in-Residence, and founder ecosystem supply the technical startup knowledge. You supply the structure, rigor, and forward motion that transform capability into achievement.

This role also presents a chance to construct something foundational. As part of our founding team in New York City, you'll influence the culture, operational systems, and daily reality of a school built to reimagine what secondary education can deliver. Your contributions won't only affect a single student cohort. They'll form the model for every Founders School location that opens afterward. If startups energize you, you believe exceptional standards yield exceptional results, and you're ready to channel your effort into shaping the next wave of entrepreneurial leaders, we want to hear from you.

What you will be doing

  • Provide coaching and motivation to a group of student founders via weekly one-on-one sessions, daily touchpoints, and collective stand-ups that sustain measurable forward progress.
  • Maintain an exceptionally high standard for execution while delivering the guidance and accountability students require to navigate challenges and continue building.
  • Track student advancement using FounderOS, recognize when students encounter roadblocks, and facilitate introductions to mentors, Entrepreneurs-in-Residence, or other assets that speed their development.
  • Contribute to building the culture, rituals, programming, events, and operational cadence of a premier entrepreneurial secondary school.
  • Accompany students on travel several times annually while cultivating enduring relationships with founders, investors, operators, and entrepreneurial families.

What you will NOT be doing

  • Serving as the main startup advisor or crafting business strategy for students. FounderOS, Entrepreneurs-in-Residence, and visiting mentors handle those responsibilities.
  • Delivering traditional academic instruction or evaluating coursework.
  • Tolerating mediocre effort from students who can deliver exceptional performance.
  • Facilitating workshops beyond your domain of expertise or depending on generic startup guidance.
  • Operating within a bureaucratic school system where red tape interferes with impactful student results.

Key responsibilities

Establish an environment where every student continually develops as an entrepreneur by integrating outstanding coaching, rigorous accountability, strategic connections, and a culture that transforms ambitious teenagers into competent founders.

Candidate requirements

  • A minimum of 3 years of leadership or high-impact work within a startup or high-growth business.
  • Solid business judgment and the capacity to engage confidently with early-stage founders while understanding when to bring in subject matter experts.
  • Proven ability to coach, motivate, and maintain high standards with high-performing individuals.
  • Daily, practical experience leveraging AI to enhance the quality and speed of your work.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building capabilities with students, families, mentors, and founders.
  • Availability to work full-time on-site in New York City, with periodic travel during the year.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States.

Nice to have

  • Founded or co-founded a business.
  • Background coaching, mentoring, or managing programs for teenagers or young adults.
  • An existing network of founders, investors, operators, or mentors.
  • Experience in early-stage startups where you frequently worked across multiple functions.
