Head Coach   $200,000 USD/year

Description

  • In person at an Alpha campus in Miami, FL, or New York City, NY — relocation support available
  • $200,000/year
  • Full-time

Traditional schools often reduce rigor when students fall behind. You take the opposite approach.

You are convinced that young learners can achieve far beyond what conventional classrooms demand, and you have led teams that deliver measurable proof. You understand that lasting change comes from motivation, clear accountability, and elevated standards—not from another workbook page.

Alpha dedicates just two morning hours to academics, delivered through adaptive technology. This structure allows you to concentrate on higher-leverage work: coaching children to become self-directed learners and developing the Guides who enable that transformation. You will be accountable for outcomes within a K-3 cohort, relying on data, direct observation, and ongoing coaching to ensure every student enjoys school, learns at twice the expected rate, and builds strong life skills.

This position is neither a traditional instructional coach nor a principal role. Your days will not disappear into meetings or administrative tasks. Instead, you will spend time in classrooms, reviewing Guide and student performance, leading workshops on resilience, communication, focus, and accountability, and coaching both children and adults toward concrete progress.

Your impact will extend beyond your assigned cohort. You will capture proven methods, create playbooks that elevate standards across the campus, and contribute to how Alpha trains future Guides. If you are driven by developing people, replicating excellence, and demonstrating that exceptional results follow high expectations, we want to hear from you.

What you will be doing

  • Leverage performance data, classroom observations, and targeted feedback to coach Guides and students toward measurable progress.
  • Design and deliver dynamic workshops for K-3 students that build communication, resilience, collaboration, accountability, focus, and additional life skills.
  • Conduct one-on-one and small-group coaching that links student motivation with academic achievement and self-sufficiency.
  • Create and iterate scalable coaching playbooks that elevate Guide team performance.
  • Mentor and train Guides while consistently modeling outstanding coaching and facilitation.

What you will NOT be doing

  • Providing traditional classroom instruction or lecturing on academic subjects; core academics are delivered via adaptive technology.
  • Relying on punishment or lowered expectations to manage student challenges.
  • Operating from an office rather than engaging directly with students and Guides daily.
  • Taking responsibility for campus operations, budgets, or parent outreach; your mandate is people development and outcome improvement.
  • Adhering to standard elementary practices solely because "that's the way it's always been done."

Key responsibilities

Fulfill Alpha's three core promises for every K-3 student by cultivating high-performing Guides, highly motivated learners, and a coaching culture that reliably produces outstanding academic and life outcomes.

Candidate requirements

  • Willing to work in person at an Alpha campus in Miami, FL or New York City, NY; relocation support is provided

  • Experience leading teams of five or more people, including performance management and hiring decisions.
  • Experience building, launching, or significantly growing a program, school, team, or initiative rather than maintaining an existing one.
  • Demonstrated success using data and measurable outcomes to improve team or student performance.
  • Excited by challenging conventional education models and embracing a coaching-first approach.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States.

Nice to have

  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • Experience leveraging dashboards, analytics, or performance metrics to drive continuous improvement.
  • Proven ability to coach adults toward measurable performance gains.
