Activity Leader   $30 USD/hour

Description

  • On-site: Texas Sports Academy, Lake Travis (Austin), TX
  • $30/hr | 15–30 hrs/week | Full-time option at $60,000/year + benefits
  • Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:00 PM (flexible scheduling within school hours)

The academic block here runs two hours. Not two hours of traditional instruction — two hours of concentrated, student-driven work, followed by athletic training for the remainder of the day. The model depends on precise execution, and every minute counts.

This is your role. You manage the operational flow of each student-athlete's day: the academic session begins punctually and maintains its structure, all materials and equipment are staged before students arrive, and a student losing focus at the forty-minute mark is re-engaged before the session loses momentum. Afterward, you reset the space and repeat the process for afternoon training and athlete-development sessions.

If you picture "assistant" as observing from the perimeter and intervening only when issues arise, this position is different. From day one, you're actively involved — supervising the environment, deploying TSA-approved engagement strategies (positive reinforcement, structured cues, immediate redirection), and preparing each session so the Coach can begin without delay.

You'll collaborate with Coaches and partner trainers in classrooms, gyms, and training environments. As you internalize TSA's framework, your ownership expands — and for candidates with the right aptitude, the route to becoming a Coach is straightforward. Apply now.

What you will be doing

  • Managing student-athlete transitions among the academic block, training sessions, and workshops (approximately 30% of your time): tracking time, cueing students to transition, and applying positive reinforcement to maintain orderly, on-schedule movement
  • Staging session materials ahead of each block by collecting academic resources, workshop supplies, and training gear, arranging them according to the session plan, and verifying the setup aligns with the Coach's specifications before students enter
  • Supporting student-athlete participation throughout the two-hour academic block and afternoon training (approximately 40% of your time) by observing engagement levels, catching disengagement early, and re-engaging students with TSA-approved methods without disrupting instruction

What you will NOT be doing

  • Observing passively from the sidelines until problems surface — this role demands continuous presence and in-the-moment judgment throughout the school day
  • Coaching athletes, designing training programs, or leading drills; training design and delivery are the responsibility of Coaches and partner trainers
  • Creating lesson content, drafting activity plans, or owning academic results (those belong to the Coach)
  • Developing personal methods for managing student behavior; TSA's engagement techniques are standardized and you'll implement them as designed
  • Handling facility maintenance, carpool coordination, or after-hours programming; your focus is session execution during school hours

Key responsibilities

Ensure Texas Sports Academy's academic and training schedule operates seamlessly so Coaches can concentrate on instruction and athletic development.

  • Professional or volunteer background coaching children (sports, debate, chess, camp counseling, or equivalent).
  • Experience working with children ages 5–14 in structured environments (school, camp, childcare, tutoring, or coaching).
  • Capacity to organize people, materials, and activities efficiently and with precision.
  • Child-friendly demeanor and comfort using encouragement to redirect behavior.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. without requiring visa sponsorship.
