Vice President of Product Engineering   $400,000 USD/year

Description

Are you a technically rigorous product leader eager to spearhead the AI-driven transformation of education? 2 Hour Learning seeks a technical architect to oversee the evolution of our AI-enabled learning platform. This position demands someone with the technical depth to function as a CTO, the strategic foresight to catalyze profound change, and the commitment to apply these capabilities toward unlocking student achievement at scale.

Traditional education companies retrofit AI onto legacy models as a superficial addition. 2 Hour Learning has taken a fundamentally different path: we have reconstructed the school framework from its foundation, leveraging AI and learning science to dismantle the limitations of conventional classrooms. Our students do not merely progress — they excel, earning multiple 4s and 5s on AP examinations, demonstrating multi-year academic advancement in single academic cycles, and routinely surpassing their own projections. We have validated that when AI serves as the foundational infrastructure of learning, student performance accelerates dramatically.

This is not a conventional product management position centered on customer feedback mechanisms or gradual feature iteration. This is an executive-level technical product ownership role, where you will control the architecture, technical roadmap, and AI deployment across our complete learning infrastructure. You will be accountable for navigating complex technical trade-offs that keep our products streamlined, scalable, and uncompromisingly oriented toward elevating student results. You will operate with the mindset of a CTO while executing with the velocity of a product entrepreneur, fusing engineering discipline with learning science principles to generate continuous innovation.

If you are prepared to drive the technical transformation of education and possess the operational tenacity to realize that vision, we invite your application. This is your chance to architect the future of learning.

What you will be doing

  • Cultivating and applying comprehensive education product expertise to inform strategic choices
  • Crafting technical specifications that resolve critical technical decisions while prioritizing simplicity, operational efficiency, and sustainable architecture
  • Deploying generative AI capabilities to automate and optimize engineering workflows, consistent with the organizational objective of minimizing manual intervention

What you will NOT be doing

  • Traditional people management; this role emphasizes your business insight and technical expertise
  • Spending time in excessive meetings, committees, or administrative processes; we have eliminated management overhead to enable focus on delivering tangible business impact through direct contribution
  • Abstract strategic frameworks without actionable execution plans; your guidance must be grounded in product-specific knowledge

Key responsibilities

  • Serve as the CTO for one or more education products, assuming ownership of foundational capabilities and generating business value through flawless execution and strategic leadership

Candidate requirements

  • Substantial experience or demonstrated interest in data-driven learning science
  • 7+ years of experience determining critical architecture and design choices on software initiatives, including application of architectural design patterns or major open source technologies
  • 2+ years of experience making design decisions that incorporate cloud computing services (primarily AWS)
  • 4+ years of experience in roles with complete technical and delivery accountability for a revenue-generating product
  • Experience developing product features that utilize advanced Generative AI
  • Experience applying Generative AI to streamline work processes
