Director of Product Architecture   $400,000 USD/year

Description

2 Hour Learning seeks a deeply technical product leader to direct the architectural evolution of our AI-powered learning ecosystem. This position demands someone with the technical depth to function as a CTO, the strategic vision to catalyze transformational progress, and the commitment to deploy those capabilities in unlocking student potential at scale.

While most organizations attach AI to conventional education frameworks as an add-on, 2 Hour Learning has pursued a fundamentally different path: we've reconstructed the school model from first principles, leveraging AI and learning science to eliminate the limitations inherent in traditional classrooms. Our students don't simply improve—they excel, earning multiple 4s and 5s on AP exams, demonstrating multi-year academic advancement within a single year, and routinely surpassing their own expectations. We've established that when AI serves as the foundational operating system for learning, student achievement accelerates dramatically.

This is not a conventional product management position centered on user feedback cycles or incremental feature iteration. This is an executive-level technical product ownership role where you will control the architecture, technical direction, and AI integration across our complete learning platform. You'll make critical technical tradeoffs that keep our products lean, scalable, and relentlessly optimized for student outcome improvement. You will combine the analytical mindset of a CTO with the execution velocity of a product entrepreneur, merging engineering rigor with learning science principles to generate continuous breakthroughs.

If you are prepared to lead the technical transformation of education and possess the operational discipline to realize that ambition, we invite your application. This is your chance to architect the future of learning.

What you will be doing

  • Building and demonstrating comprehensive education product expertise to inform strategic direction
  • Creating technical specifications that resolve critical technical decisions while prioritizing simplicity, efficiency, and sustainable long-term architecture
  • Deploying generative AI technologies to automate and optimize engineering workflows, consistent with the organizational objective of minimizing manual effort

What you will NOT be doing

  • Pure people management; this position relies primarily on your business insight and technical expertise
  • Spending time in meetings, committees, and administrative overhead; we have automated managerial processes so you can concentrate on delivering business value through direct execution
  • Abstract strategies disconnected from execution; your recommendations must derive from product-level understanding

Key responsibilities

  • Serve as the CTO for one or more education products, controlling core technical competencies and generating business value through flawless execution and strategic choices

Candidate requirements

  • Substantial experience or demonstrated interest in data-driven learning science
  • 7+ years of experience making critical architecture and design decisions on software projects, including the application of architecture design patterns or major open source technologies
  • 2+ years of experience making design decisions that involve cloud computing services (primarily AWS)
  • 4+ years of experience in roles with complete technical and delivery ownership of a revenue-generating product
  • Experience developing product features that incorporate advanced use of Generative AI
  • Experience applying Generative AI to streamline work processes
