VP of Capital Projects   $200,000 USD/year

Description

Opening one school is achievable for most operators. Opening many schools with consistent speed and predictability is not.

2 Hour Learning is constructing a nationwide portfolio of schools engineered to condense a complete day of instruction into two highly focused hours through AI technology. This model depends on expansion execution that is as rigorous as the educational product. This position has been created to deliver that outcome. You will control the complete lifecycle of new school sites—from initial acquisition through full operational readiness—while establishing the systems that make every subsequent launch faster, more efficient, and more reliable.

This is not a conventional development position. You are not joining to simply oversee projects. You are joining to remove obstacles from the expansion process. That requires making critical decisions on site suitability, intervening directly in permitting and construction challenges, managing vendor negotiations, and maintaining aggressive timelines. Concurrently, you will decompose every component of this workflow into structured, AI-enabled processes that minimize manual intervention and enhance forecasting precision with each iteration.

If you have managed real-world construction and are dissatisfied with prolonged schedules, disconnected accountability, and recurring errors, this is your opportunity to solve those issues—systematically and at scale.

What you will be doing

  • Evaluate and approve high-impact site opportunities by assessing zoning constraints, permitting requirements, cost projections, and timeline viability through structured and AI-supported analysis
  • Manage multiple concurrent school construction projects, directing construction managers, clearing obstacles, and delivering launches on time and within budget
  • Create well-defined, actionable capital project proposals that bring stakeholders into alignment on scope, budget, and execution approach
  • Oversee vendor identification, RFP processes, and contract negotiations with an emphasis on velocity, quality standards, and cost efficiency
  • Break down expansion processes into discrete task units and implement AI-powered systems that accelerate delivery and increase predictability

What you will NOT be doing

  • Functioning as a passive project coordinator who waits for status reports from contractors or external partners
  • Limiting your involvement to a single phase (e.g., site acquisition or construction alone) without accountability for the complete result
  • Depending on improvised, manual processes that start from scratch with each new site
  • Forwarding issues upward without personally addressing permitting, design, or construction challenges
  • Allowing months of stakeholder discussion to delay decisive action

Key responsibilities

Take full ownership of new school location expansion by launching fully operational campuses on reliable schedules while systematically decreasing time, cost, and risk through AI-enhanced systems.

Candidate requirements

  • Confirmed experience leading a minimum of one real estate development or construction project from site identification through operational launch with complete ownership
  • Background managing multiple simultaneous construction or capital projects with direct accountability for schedules, coordination, and problem resolution
  • Deep working knowledge of zoning regulations, permitting procedures, construction processes, and vendor management, with capability to interface directly with general contractors, architects, and regulatory authorities
  • Proven capacity to make informed tradeoff decisions balancing cost, schedule, and feasibility with clear, quantifiable results
  • Experience refining or designing complex operational processes (e.g., permitting workflows, design coordination, construction delivery)
  • Proven ability to deconstruct complex processes into structured, repeatable frameworks and refine them iteratively
  • Track record of deploying tools (AI-based or other) to eliminate manual tasks, speed up decision cycles, or enhance execution velocity
  • Strong ownership orientation with capacity to function effectively in uncertain environments and produce tangible outcomes
  • Willingness and capacity to travel up to 60% to active construction sites nationwide and be present during pivotal development and opening phases
  • Currently based in the US and authorized to work without requiring visa sponsorship
