VP of Construction Management   $200,000 USD/year

Description

Opening a school is straightforward. Opening dozens of them on schedule, within budget, and with increasing efficiency is not.

2 Hour Learning is establishing a nationwide system of schools that delivers a complete day of education in two concentrated hours through artificial intelligence. Success depends on expansion that is as disciplined and reliable as the educational model. This position is designed to ensure that outcome. You will control the complete development cycle for new school sites—from initial property through operational launch—while constructing the frameworks that make every future opening more efficient, streamlined, and dependable.

This is not a conventional construction management position. Your purpose is not simply to oversee projects. Your purpose is to remove obstacles from growth. That requires decisive judgment on site suitability, direct engagement with permitting and construction challenges, vendor negotiation, and relentless focus on delivery speed. Simultaneously, you will decompose every element of this work into defined, AI-enabled processes that minimize manual intervention and strengthen timeline accuracy with each iteration.

If you have delivered real construction projects and are dissatisfied with delayed schedules, unclear accountability, and recurring failures, this is your opportunity to correct those issues—at organizational scale.

What you will be doing

  • Evaluate critical site decisions by confirming zoning compliance, permit viability, budget alignment, and schedule feasibility through structured and AI-supported methods
  • Oversee several school construction projects at once, directing construction managers, clearing obstacles, and delivering openings that meet time and cost targets
  • Create detailed, actionable capital project plans that bring stakeholders into alignment on scope, budget, and delivery approach
  • Manage vendor qualification, RFP processes, and contract negotiations with emphasis on execution speed, deliverable quality, and financial discipline
  • Break down expansion processes into discrete operational units and construct AI-supported systems that reduce cycle time and increase delivery predictability

What you will NOT be doing

  • Operating as a status-tracking coordinator waiting for progress reports from contractors or external partners
  • Focusing on isolated segments of the process (such as only site sourcing or only construction oversight) without accountability for full delivery
  • Depending on informal, one-off approaches that must be reinvented for each new site
  • Forwarding issues upward without personally addressing permitting, design, or construction barriers
  • Consuming extended periods in stakeholder alignment without producing a concrete decision

Key responsibilities

Control the complete expansion cycle for new school locations by delivering fully functional campuses on reliable schedules while systematically decreasing time, expense, and uncertainty through AI-enabled operational systems.

Candidate requirements

  • Verified track record leading at least one real estate development or construction initiative from site acquisition through operational launch with complete accountability
  • Experience overseeing multiple simultaneous construction or capital projects with direct ownership of schedules, coordination, and problem resolution
  • Deep working knowledge of zoning regulations, permitting procedures, construction execution, and vendor management, with capability to interact directly with general contractors, architects, and regulatory authorities
  • Proven capacity to evaluate tradeoffs involving cost, schedule, and feasibility with documented, quantifiable results
  • Experience refining or systematizing complex operational processes (such as permitting workflows, design coordination, or construction delivery)
  • Confirmed ability to deconstruct intricate workflows into organized, scalable systems and enhance them continuously
  • Track record of applying technology (AI or other tools) to eliminate manual tasks, speed up decisions, or enhance execution velocity
  • Strong sense of ownership with capability to function effectively amid uncertainty and produce tangible outcomes
  • Willingness and capacity to travel up to 60% to operational school sites nationwide and maintain on-site presence during pivotal development and opening milestones
  • Currently based in the United States and authorized to work without requiring visa sponsorship
