VP of Facilities Development   $200,000 USD/year

Description

Opening one school is straightforward. Opening many schools on schedule, with improving speed and consistency, is a different challenge entirely.

2 Hour Learning is constructing a nationwide school network that uses AI to deliver a complete day's curriculum in two concentrated hours. The model's success depends on expansion being as disciplined and efficient as the educational approach itself. This position was created to drive that outcome. You will control the entire development cycle for new school facilities—from initial site evaluation to fully functioning campus—while establishing frameworks that make every new opening faster, smoother, and more reliable.

This is not a conventional development position. You are not being hired to simply coordinate projects. You are being hired to remove obstacles from the expansion process. That requires making definitive judgments on site suitability, engaging directly with permitting and construction challenges, managing vendor relationships, and maintaining aggressive timelines. Simultaneously, you will decompose these processes into organized, AI-enhanced workflows that minimize hands-on effort and strengthen timeline accuracy with each iteration.

If you have directed actual construction projects and find yourself frustrated by delayed schedules, unclear ownership, and recurring errors, this is your opportunity to correct those issues—at significant scale.

What you will be doing

  • Evaluate and approve high-impact site choices by confirming zoning compliance, permitting pathways, cost parameters, and schedule viability through structured and AI-supported evaluation
  • Manage multiple school construction projects concurrently, directing construction managers, eliminating obstacles, and delivering on-schedule, on-budget campus openings
  • Produce comprehensive, decision-ready capital project recommendations that secure stakeholder alignment on scope, budget, and implementation approach
  • Drive vendor identification, RFP processes, and contractual negotiations with emphasis on execution speed, output quality, and financial discipline
  • Break down expansion operations into discrete work components and create AI-powered systems that reduce cycle times and enhance outcome predictability

What you will NOT be doing

  • Functioning as a passive status monitor awaiting progress reports from contractors or external partners
  • Focusing narrowly on a single development phase (e.g., only site acquisition or only construction oversight) without accountability for complete results
  • Depending on improvised, one-off procedures that require reinvention for each new site
  • Raising issues upward without personally intervening to address permitting, design, or construction obstacles
  • Consuming extended time periods on stakeholder consensus-building without producing clear decisions

Key responsibilities

Control the complete development lifecycle of new school facilities by delivering fully operational campuses on consistent schedules while systematically decreasing time, expense, and uncertainty through AI-enhanced operational systems.

Candidate requirements

  • Documented experience directing at least one real estate development or construction initiative from initial site selection to operational launch with complete ownership
  • Experience overseeing multiple simultaneous construction or capital projects with direct accountability for schedule management, coordination, and problem resolution
  • Deep working knowledge of zoning regulations, permitting procedures, construction processes, and vendor management, with capability to interact directly with general contractors, architects, and regulatory officials
  • Proven capacity to evaluate tradeoffs involving cost, timeline, and feasibility with clear, quantifiable results
  • Experience refining or organizing complex operational processes (e.g., permitting workflows, design coordination, construction delivery)
  • Proven ability to decompose complex processes into structured, replicable frameworks and enhance them progressively
  • Track record of applying tools (AI or other technologies) to eliminate manual tasks, speed decision cycles, or improve execution velocity
  • Strong ownership orientation with capability to function effectively in uncertain environments and produce tangible results
  • Willingness and capacity to travel up to 60% to active construction sites nationwide and maintain on-site presence during critical development and launch phases
  • Currently based in the US and authorized to work without requirement for visa sponsorship
