VP of Construction   $200,000 USD/year

Description

Opening one school is a manageable task. Opening them consistently, with precision, and at increasing speed is a different challenge entirely.

2 Hour Learning is establishing a nationwide portfolio of schools engineered to deliver a full day's education in two concentrated hours through AI. Scaling this model demands that our expansion approach matches the rigor of the learning product. This position is designed to deliver exactly that. You will control the complete development cycle for new school sites—from initial raw space to fully functional campus—while constructing the frameworks that make every future launch more efficient, streamlined, and reliable.

This is not a conventional facilities development position. You are not being hired simply to oversee projects. You are being hired to remove obstacles from our growth trajectory. That requires making decisive calls on site suitability, engaging directly with permitting and construction challenges, conducting vendor negotiations, and advancing schedules with intensity. Simultaneously, you will decompose each component of this process into organized, AI-enhanced workflows that minimize manual intervention and strengthen forecast precision with each iteration.

If you have delivered real construction projects and are tired of protracted schedules, scattered accountability, and recurring errors, this is your opportunity to solve those problems—at significant scale.

What you will be doing

  • Execute critical site evaluations by confirming zoning compliance, permitting pathways, cost parameters, and schedule viability through structured and AI-supported analysis
  • Oversee multiple school construction projects concurrently, directing construction managers, clearing obstacles, and securing on-schedule, on-budget completions
  • Prepare detailed, decision-ready capital project plans that bring stakeholders into alignment on scope, budget, and delivery approach
  • Manage vendor qualification, RFP processes, and contract negotiations with emphasis on velocity, quality standards, and cost discipline
  • Break down expansion processes into discrete operational units and create AI-powered systems that shorten delivery cycles and enhance predictability

What you will NOT be doing

  • Functioning as a passive status monitor dependent on contractor or partner reports
  • Focusing exclusively on a single phase (such as site selection or construction alone) without accountability for the complete result
  • Depending on improvised, manual methods that restart from scratch at each new site
  • Raising issues without personally intervening to address permitting, design, or construction challenges
  • Consuming extended periods building consensus without pushing toward a definitive decision

Key responsibilities

Control the complete expansion lifecycle for new school locations by delivering fully operational campuses on reliable schedules while systematically decreasing time, expense, and uncertainty through AI-enabled frameworks.

Candidate requirements

  • Documented experience directing at least one real estate development or construction initiative from site selection to operational launch with complete ownership
  • Background managing multiple simultaneous construction or capital projects with direct accountability for schedules, coordination, and problem resolution
  • Solid expertise in zoning regulations, permitting processes, construction management, and vendor coordination, with capability to interact directly with general contractors, architects, and regulatory authorities
  • Proven capacity to evaluate tradeoffs involving cost, schedule, and feasibility with transparent, quantifiable results
  • Experience refining or organizing complex operational processes (such as permitting, design coordination, or construction delivery)
  • Confirmed ability to decompose intricate workflows into structured, repeatable frameworks and enhance them progressively
  • Track record of applying tools (AI-based or otherwise) to minimize manual effort, speed decision cycles, or improve execution performance
  • Strong ownership orientation with capability to function in uncertain environments and produce tangible outcomes
  • Willingness and capacity to travel up to 60% to active school locations throughout the US and maintain on-site presence during pivotal development and launch phases
  • Currently based in the US and authorized to work without requiring visa sponsorship
