Coach   $100,000 USD/year

Description

  • On-site: Brownsville, TX (relocation support provided)
  • $100,000 annually
  • Full-time, 40 hours per week

You've built your career coaching children — not instructing them. The distinction matters: coaching means connecting, challenging, and refusing to accept anything less than a student's best effort. Instruction is about delivering content. You've never operated as a content delivery mechanism.

Alpha operates an unconventional school unlike anything you've encountered. Students don't occupy rows listening to lectures — they progress through AI-driven learning applications at their own speed. Your role isn't explaining fractions. It's facilitating life skills workshops that command the attention of K-8 students, conducting motivation sessions that drive them toward their weekly learning targets, and maintaining standards when a student attempts to underperform. The academic progress happens independently. You manage the human dimension.

This position offers meaningful advancement potential. Coaches who consistently achieve their metrics (100% cohort completion of weekly app targets, satisfaction scores above 90%) advance to Lead positions where they mentor other educators and influence campus culture.

The campus sits in Brownsville, adjacent to SpaceX's Starbase facility. If you're interested in working in one of the nation's most forward-thinking locations doing work that transforms what children believe about their capabilities, submit your application.

What you will be doing

  • Facilitating one-hour life skills workshops for K-8 students on topics including public speaking, focus, and feedback exchange
  • Administering Test2Pass mastery assessments following each workshop to verify students have authentically acquired the skill, not merely attended
  • Conducting daily motivation sessions leveraging student profiles, interests, and Coachbot analytics to ensure 100% of your cohort reaches their weekly app progression targets
  • Utilizing storytelling, incentive structures (school currency, leaderboards), and individual relationships to overcome student resistance
  • Monitoring cohort satisfaction scores with a 90%+ benchmark on student surveys

What you will NOT be doing

  • Lecturing from the front of a room. Students progress academically via self-directed apps, not through direct instruction from you.
  • Supervising passively. The environment involves kids using computers; the role demands active engagement.
  • Compromising standards when students resist. Test2Pass requirements remain firm, even when a student faces a difficult week.
  • Creating curriculum independently — workshop playbooks and lesson plans are supplied; your responsibility is executing them with the presence and narrative skill that ensures genuine student absorption.
  • Handling parent relations, admissions processes, or campus operations. Those functions belong to other roles.

Key responsibilities

Guide a cohort of K-8 students to achieve 100% of their weekly academic targets while facilitating life skills workshops that maintain 90%+ satisfaction scores.

Candidate requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in any discipline
  • Minimum 3 years of direct experience working with K-8 (elementary and middle school) students
  • Strong storytelling and facilitation skills — capable of maintaining child engagement for one-hour sessions
  • Willingness to work on-site at the Alpha campus located in Brownsville, TX
  • Authorization to work legally in the US without requiring visa sponsorship

Nice to have

  • Experience as an athletic coach, camp counselor, or youth program leader
  • Demonstrated high achievement in competitive settings (academic, athletic, or professional)
  • Familiarity with self-directed or app-based learning environments
