Tutor   $30 USD/hour

Description

  • On-site position: Alpha Schools, Scottsdale (Phoenix), AZ
  • $30/hour | 15–30 hours weekly | Full-time track available: $60,000 annually + benefits
  • Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM–4:00 PM (flexible scheduling within school hours)

If catching a distracted 10-year-old before they derail the rest of the group is the part of the job where you excel, continue reading. If "assistant" means observing from the sidelines and stepping in only during crises, this role is different.

Alpha operates a compressed K-12 learning structure: scheduled down to the minute, faster-paced than conventional school days, and centered on a Guide whose sole focus is delivering instruction. This model functions only when someone controls the operational foundation — transitions executed on schedule, materials prepared ahead of lessons, student focus maintained before minor distractions escalate into disruptions.

You're immersed from day one. No gradual onboarding. You'll be monitoring classroom dynamics, implementing Alpha-approved motivational strategies (positive reinforcement, structured prompting, immediate redirection), and staging each activity so the Guide begins without delay. When you execute effectively, a drifting student refocuses before the lesson loses momentum. The standards are explicit: 95% on-time transitions, materials prepped before every session, sustained student engagement.

As you develop fluency in Alpha's approach, your ownership expands. Assistants who master operational execution assume greater classroom authority — and for the right candidate, the trajectory to Guide is clear. Apply today.

What you will be doing

  • Overseeing student transitions between activities (approximately 30% of your time): tracking the schedule, cueing students to move, and employing positive reinforcement to maintain orderly, timely movement
  • Staging classroom materials ahead of each lesson by collecting supplies, arranging them according to the activity plan, and verifying setup aligns with the Guide's specifications before instruction starts
  • Supporting student engagement during structured activities (approximately 40% of your time) by observing participation, spotting disengagement early, and redirecting students through Alpha-approved classroom management methods without disrupting instruction

What you will NOT be doing

  • Waiting in the back of the classroom for problems to arise — this position demands active involvement and continuous decision-making throughout the day
  • Creating lessons, drafting activity plans, or bearing responsibility for academic results (those belong to the Guide)
  • Developing your own student behavior strategies; Alpha's motivational methods are prescribed and you'll implement them uniformly
  • Handling facility maintenance, carpool coordination, or after-hours programming; your focus is classroom operations during school hours

Key responsibilities

Maintain Alpha's classroom operations so Guides remain fully focused on delivering instruction.

Candidate requirements

  • Available to work on-site at our Scottsdale campus.
  • Commit to a minimum of 10 hours weekly, with complete flexibility to select your schedule during school hours (Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM). Full-time position available.
  • Previous experience working with children ages 5–14 in structured environments (school, camp, childcare, tutoring, or coaching).
  • Capacity to coordinate people, materials, and activities efficiently and with precision.
  • Child-friendly demeanor and comfort redirecting children through positive encouragement.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without requiring visa sponsorship.

Nice to have

  • Direct group management experience with active children (camp counselor, classroom aide, teacher's aide, paraprofessional, youth sports coach, or after-school program coordinator)
  • Background in mastery-based, competency-based, or structured learning environments (Montessori, project-based learning, or comparable models)
  • Demonstrated ability to keep groups on schedule through positive redirection without escalating to adult-level intervention
