Performance Coach   $120,000 USD/year

Description

  • On-site role at an Alpha School campus: Piedmont, CA · Santa Barbara, CA · Santa Monica, CA · Greenwich, CT · Fort Lauderdale, FL · Palm Beach Gardens, FL · Chicago, IL · Boston, MA · Raleigh, NC · Charlotte, NC · Portland, OR · Seattle, WA
  • Annual compensation of $120,000 USD, paid weekly. Full health, dental, and vision coverage begins on day one
  • Relocation assistance available. Teaching certification not required.

The most powerful form of support you can offer a student who scored 95% is to refuse to accept it as finished work. If that philosophy makes you uncomfortable, this role isn't for you. If it makes you curious, you already share our mindset.

Alpha students don't absorb information through traditional lectures. They master academics via AI-driven adaptive software at their own speed, frequently completing an entire grade level within weeks. Your role encompasses everything the technology cannot: guiding kids through setbacks, teaching them to deliver meaningful feedback, holding them accountable to standards they didn't believe they could reach, and ensuring they're excited to return each day. You'll facilitate hands-on life skills workshops covering public speaking, concentration, and time management, followed by motivational sessions designed to inspire authentic engagement rather than mere compliance.

This environment is not a traditional classroom. You'll support a small group of K-12 students who recognize you by name. You'll monitor their development through Coachbot analytics, identify when someone encounters obstacles, and guide them toward self-sufficiency. When 100% of your students achieve their weekly targets and 90% provide positive survey feedback, you'll have confirmation that the system works because you executed it effectively.

Guides who excel with their cohorts advance to Lead Guide roles—mentoring other Guides and influencing how an entire campus fulfills Alpha's commitments. Alpha is expanding to new locations, and those who establish excellence today become the architects of tomorrow's growth. If you've never imagined a career in education but believe you possess the ability to alter a child's path, this is where that conviction becomes your profession. Apply today.

What you will be doing

  • Facilitating one-hour life skills workshops for K-12 students on subjects including public speaking, concentration, and feedback delivery: interactive, project-driven sessions where you engage actively rather than lecture passively
  • Guiding a small student cohort daily, leveraging Coachbot analytics and individual student profiles to establish personalized goals, monitor application progress, and challenge every student to advance
  • Designing and administering mastery-based assessments (Test2Pass) to confirm students have genuinely acquired the skill, not merely attended the session
  • Building individual relationships with students: discovering their passions, identifying what drives each one, and tailoring your coaching style to match
  • Maintaining performance standards: 100% of students reaching weekly objectives, 90%+ satisfaction ratings on student surveys

What you will NOT be doing

  • Delivering traditional academic instruction. Students acquire math, reading, and science knowledge through adaptive applications. You won't stand before a whiteboard explaining long division.
  • Creating lesson plans from the ground up. Alpha supplies a life skills curriculum and implementation guides. Your responsibility is to execute them effectively, not design them independently.
  • Grading assignments, conducting parent-teacher conferences, or overseeing standardized testing. No report cards require completion and no state exam preparation is necessary.
  • Passively supervising students on devices. When a student encounters difficulty, you coach them toward independence. Inactive observation contradicts the essence of this position.
  • Compromising standards when students resist. The motivational framework depends on upholding rigorous expectations, not creating exceptions when situations become challenging.

Key responsibilities

Guide a cohort of K-12 students who thrive in school, accelerate their learning through adaptive software, and develop life skills via dynamic workshops.

Candidate requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in any discipline
  • Minimum of 3 years of direct experience working with K-8 students (professional or organized volunteer positions such as coaching, camp counseling, or youth programming)
  • Available to work on-site at an Alpha School campus in one of these cities: Piedmont, CA; Santa Barbara, CA; Santa Monica, CA; Greenwich, CT; Fort Lauderdale, FL; Palm Beach Gardens, FL; Chicago, IL; Boston, MA; Raleigh, NC; Charlotte, NC; Portland, OR; Seattle, WA
  • Authorized to work in the United States without requiring visa sponsorship

Nice to have

  • Background as a sports coach, theater director, debate coach, or camp programming leader where you inspired children to excel, not simply attend
  • Demonstrated history of exceptional personal achievement (academic, athletic, or professional) that earns credibility with students and parents
  • Confidence presenting to groups: the type of presence that commands attention from a room of twelve-year-olds without escalating volume
  • Experience with adaptive learning platforms or educational technology tools (e.g., Khan Academy, IXL, DreamBox)
