Learning Coach   $120,000 USD/year

Description

  • $120,000/year W2 salary paid weekly; health, dental, and vision benefits from day one
  • On-site role at an Alpha campus in 13 US locations across CA, CT, FL, IL, and MA (complete list below; relocation assistance available)

AI can instruct a six-year-old in reading. It cannot inspire her to care. Closing that gap is your work.

Alpha's K-2 students complete academic learning through AI-driven applications in two daily hours. No traditional lessons. No paper assignments. Half your time is spent facilitating one-hour life-skills workshops covering public speaking, concentration, and feedback exchange. A structured playbook is provided, though top performers customize it for their group and create new exercises when needed. The remaining half involves sitting with students individually or in small clusters, analyzing Coachbot data, and coaching each child toward 100% completion of weekly app targets. Building trust earns you leverage to challenge. Challenging them demonstrates your belief in their capability.

A successful quarter means every student achieves weekly app targets, passes Test2Pass for all life-skills workshops, and 90%+ report loving you. Fall short on any single metric and the role has not been fulfilled. Your first year focuses on playbook mastery; after demonstrating you can maintain standards, advancement to Lead Guide becomes available—coaching newer staff while continuing to lead your own cohort.

This role is not suited to those who prefer traditional pedagogy, desire fully scripted curriculum, or view warmth and rigor as incompatible. If your background includes early-elementary teaching centered on circle time, camp counseling for young children, youth sports coaching, or children's theater performance, the final hiring stage is a shadow day coaching actual Alpha students. Submit your application now.

What you will be doing

  • Facilitating one-hour life-skills workshops for K-2 cohorts covering public speaking, concentration, feedback, and other foundational competencies—personalizing the playbook for your group rather than executing it verbatim.
  • Conducting daily individual and small-group motivation sessions that maintain every student's trajectory toward weekly app targets, leveraging Coachbot analytics, Alpha's reward structures (school currency, leaderboards), and the rapport established with each child.
  • Delivering Test2Pass, Alpha's mastery-validated assessment, for each life skill and coaching students who fall short until mastery is achieved.
  • Engaging kindergarteners through song, narrative, physical activity, and playfulness while maintaining concrete, quantifiable expectations for first and second graders.
  • Serving as the caring adult children are excited to see at arrival AND the adult who will not accept minimal effort.

What you will NOT be doing

  • Delivering board-based lectures. Academic content is delivered through the applications, not through you.
  • Developing curriculum independently. Alpha supplies the playbook; you animate it.
  • Passively monitoring children at terminals. Motivation in this model is deliberate, individualized, and persistent.
  • Reducing a weekly target to enable a child to meet it. When a student lags, the intervention targets the student, not the goal.
  • Evaluating homework, conducting standardized test preparation, or handling parent correspondence. Campus Leads manage parent-facing responsibilities, and the other tasks do not exist in this environment.

Key responsibilities

Guarantee that every student in your K-2 cohort reaches weekly learning targets, achieves mastery in each life skill, and concludes the year reporting they loved you.

Candidate requirements

  • Available to work on-site at an Alpha campus located in La Jolla (San Diego), Lake Forest (Orange County), Palo Alto, Piedmont, San Francisco, Santa Monica, or South Bay (LA), CA; Greenwich, CT; Boca Raton, Miami, or Miami Beach, FL; Chicago, IL; or Boston, MA (relocation assistance provided).
  • Bachelor's degree in any discipline.
  • Minimum 3 years of direct experience working with children ages 4 to 7 (early-elementary instruction, coaching, tutoring, camp counseling, or youth program management).
  • A concrete example you can articulate of motivating a young child toward a challenging goal: the objective, your actions, and the result.
  • Comfort allowing AI to deliver instructional material while you concentrate on motivation and life-skills coaching.
  • Readiness to uphold rigorous expectations with students even when met with resistance.
  • Legal authorization to work in the US without need for visa sponsorship.

Nice to have

  • Background in youth sports coaching, children's theater, camp management, Montessori/progressive early childhood education, or after-school programs where you held direct accountability for motivating young children toward defined objectives.
  • Record of personal high achievement (academic, athletic, or career-based), making holding others to elevated standards a consistent practice rather than an adopted stance.
  • Innate performer's energy with young children: capacity to command a room of kindergarteners using voice modulation, humor, and physical expression.
  • History of transforming reserved or reluctant young children into engaged, confident contributors.
