Leadership and Growth Coach   $150,000 USD/year

Description

  • On-site position at Alpha School campuses located in New York City, NY; San Francisco, CA; or Santa Barbara, CA
  • Annual salary of $150,000, distributed weekly. Full health benefits begin day one.
  • Relocation assistance provided

You understand that refusing to lower standards is the most compassionate act you can offer a student. Your background includes competition, building, or accomplishment at a level most only encounter in articles: elite competitive sports, graduation with honors from a top-tier institution, employment at a highly selective organization, or a venture you launched and grew independently. Now consider channeling that discipline into a space filled with K-12 students who have never encountered someone of your caliber willing to push them toward standards they didn't realize were within reach. If maintaining elite expectations strikes you as too demanding, this role is not for you.

Alpha leverages AI-driven 1-on-1 instruction, enabling students to complete core academics in approximately two hours daily. The remainder of each day is dedicated to life skills, passion projects, and meaningful personal development. At Alpha's most rigorous campuses, students require more than oversight. They need a credible mentor whose personal accomplishments model excellence: someone capable of assessing group dynamics, establishing norms, and guiding them through resistance, distraction, and uncertainty.

Your role is not instructional. It is to coach, challenge, and maintain the same rigorous standards you have applied to yourself. Forty percent of your time involves direct 1-on-1 and small-group coaching that identifies obstacles and establishes ambitious objectives. Another forty percent is spent facilitating structured life-skills workshops designed for mastery rather than engagement. The final twenty percent is dedicated to framing each day: purposeful morning sessions that cultivate a culture where average performance is unacceptable.

The trajectory here emphasizes depth over advancement. You begin by mastering Alpha's framework and earning student trust. Within months, you become the person they trust to push them beyond perceived limits. The reward is not a title. It is witnessing a student who avoided eye contact in September deliver a confident presentation to adults in May.

If you have been seeking a way to leverage your elite background for impact beyond your own career progression, submit your application now.

What you will be doing

  • Conducting 1-on-1 and small-group coaching sessions leveraging Coachbot analytics and student data to identify obstacles, establish ambitious objectives, and ensure accountability for execution
  • Facilitating structured life-skills workshops designed for mastery, drawing on credible examples from your own elite background, followed by mastery verification through Alpha's Test2Pass framework
  • Establishing campus-wide cultural expectations each morning via focused kickoff sessions that reinforce high-performance standards
  • Monitoring student progress continuously and refining coaching approaches using data rather than intuition
  • Developing trusted mentorship relationships with students and their families through consistent high standards and documented motivation strategies

What you will NOT be doing

  • Creating lesson plans, developing curriculum, or evaluating assignments (Alpha's academic infrastructure manages instruction; your focus is motivation)
  • Delivering lectures to large classroom groups of 30 students (your work centers on high-touch coaching in intimate settings, not mass instruction)
  • Supervising other personnel or advancing through administrative ranks (this position prioritizes direct student impact over organizational structure)
  • Attending faculty meetings or managing school bureaucracy (your schedule remains concentrated on student engagement)
  • Compromising standards to meet performance indicators (if a student achieves 99%, your responsibility is understanding what prevented 100%)

Key responsibilities

Lead exceptional student motivation, development, and life-skill mastery at Alpha's most demanding campuses.

Candidate requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • At least one demonstration of exceptional achievement in a highly selective, globally recognized field (examples: medals from national or international competitions, graduation with distinction from a top-tier university, employment at a highly selective firm or fellowship, attendance at an elite performing arts institution, or founding and scaling a successful venture)
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in student coaching, youth mentoring, athletic coaching, or leadership positions where you demonstrably elevated others' performance
  • Able to work in-person at an Alpha campus in New York City, NY; San Francisco, CA; or Santa Barbara, CA (relocation assistance available)
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States

Nice to have

  • Experience in elite competitive athletics (Division 1 varsity, national team representation, or professional level) coupled with coaching or mentoring experience with younger athletes
  • Background in high-accountability sectors such as management consulting, investment banking, or military leadership
  • Demonstrated youth development through mentoring in non-academic contexts (community organizations, after-school initiatives, sports camps)
  • Confidence presenting to and establishing credibility with high-expectation families investing in premium private education
