Mentor Juvenil   $100,000 USD/year

Description

  • Based on campus at Alpha School in Dorado, Puerto Rico
  • $100,000 annual salary ($50/hour, 40 hours/week), paid every week
  • No teaching credential required; Spanish language fluency is an asset

The most meaningful support you can offer a student who reaches 99% of their target is to insist it's not finished. If that approach unsettles you, this position won't be a fit. If it energizes you because maintaining standards is your way of showing a child you know they're capable of more, read on.

Alpha School operates on a 2 Hour Learning framework: students in grades K-8 complete a full day's worth of academics in approximately two hours via adaptive learning software. No traditional lectures. No physical textbooks. Your role is the element that technology cannot deliver—guiding students through essential life competencies such as public speaking, concentration, collaboration, and constructive feedback exchange.

Roughly 60% of your time will be dedicated to individualized motivation: reviewing learning platform dashboards and Coachbot data, identifying where an eight-year-old is struggling with fractions or a fifth grader is resisting reading assignments, and helping them break through. The remaining 40% involves facilitating interactive, hour-long workshops that resemble improv sessions more than conventional lessons. Every student must demonstrate mastery via Test2Pass evaluations before progressing.

This position offers growth. You'll oversee a small student group and learn Alpha's methodology thoroughly in your first year. Demonstrate your ability to hold all students to 100% goal completion while maintaining strong satisfaction metrics, and advancement opportunities open toward Lead Guide, then Campus Lead (overseeing an entire school). You'll witness a child who struggled with eye contact in September confidently present to a room full of parents by spring.

Apply if you believe seating 30 children in rows to listen to one adult undermines what children are truly capable of achieving.

What you will be doing

  • Guiding K-8 students individually and in small groups through adaptive learning platforms, leveraging Coachbot analytics and dashboards to identify learning obstacles and their causes
  • Implementing Alpha's motivational system (leaderboards, reward structures, weekly objective-setting) to ensure every student progresses at the anticipated rate
  • Facilitating hour-long, experiential life-skills workshops focused on public speaking, concentration, teamwork, and constructive feedback (activity-based and participatory, never lecture-format)
  • Conducting Test2Pass mastery evaluations and maintaining standards: students do not move forward until they demonstrate true comprehension
  • Establishing trust with students so rigorous accountability feels empowering rather than discouraging

What you will NOT be doing

  • Delivering lectures or traditional academic content (students acquire core subjects through adaptive applications, not direct instruction from you)
  • Creating lesson plans independently — Alpha supplies the curriculum and frameworks; you execute them with enthusiasm and narrative skill
  • Grading homework assignments or preparing students for standardized testing; those elements don't exist in this model
  • Handling parent communication or operational school matters — Campus Leads manage those responsibilities, allowing you to concentrate on your student cohort
  • Supervising students passively while they use devices; if you're not actively coaching, you're not fulfilling the role

Key responsibilities

Guide a cohort of K-8 students to achieve 100% of their academic and life-skills objectives.

Candidate requirements

  • Available to work on-site at Alpha's Dorado, Puerto Rico campus
  • Bachelor's degree in any discipline
  • 3+ years of direct, hands-on experience working with K-8 (kindergarten through 8th grade) students via teaching, tutoring, youth programs, camps, or sports coaching
  • Demonstrated record of high personal achievement, whether academic, athletic, or professional
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States or Puerto Rico without requiring visa sponsorship

Nice to have

  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish to strengthen connections with students and families in the Dorado community
  • Coaching experience where elevated standards produced quantifiable results (competitive athletics, debate, performing arts, or selective youth initiatives)
  • Background facilitating youth workshops, summer programs, or after-school activities where you created the programming, not simply provided oversight
  • Knowledge of adaptive or application-based learning systems (e.g., Khan Academy, IXL, DreamBox)
