At Alpha, academic instruction is handled by software. Adaptive applications guide each learner through content at an individualized pace. There are no lectures, no homework assignments, no tests to grade. This structure allows you to focus on work that genuinely transforms outcomes: facilitating life skills workshops where high schoolers build abilities in public speaking, concentration, and constructive feedback, then supporting them individually to maintain momentum and reach their learning targets. You'll spend half your time leading group sessions. The other half is dedicated to one-on-one coaching, using Coachbot analytics to pinpoint exactly where a student is blocked and why.
After every workshop, your students complete a mastery-based evaluation. Over 90% should give you strong ratings. Every single one should be progressing in their learning apps. These aren't stretch goals—they're performance standards. Upholding rigorous expectations is how you demonstrate belief in their potential. In the process, you'll develop expertise in designing workshops teenagers genuinely want to attend, mastering innovative learning platforms, and forming meaningful relationships with students and families. What you will be doing
- Facilitating one-hour life skills workshops for high school students covering areas such as public speaking, focus, and constructive feedback, then evaluating mastery via a structured Test2Pass assessment
- Conducting daily individual motivation sessions guided by Coachbot data to engage each student, diagnose obstacles in their app-based learning, and help them overcome sticking points
- Co-creating personalized motivational plans with students, incorporating rewards and incentives that encourage autonomous progress in their academic applications
- Preparing by reviewing curriculum and session plans, then adjusting your approach in real time based on group dynamics and engagement
What you will NOT be doing
- Delivering instruction in academic subjects. All math, literacy, and content-area teaching is managed by software.
- Overseeing school operations or managing staff. No budget responsibility, no recruitment duties, no administrative meetings—your sole priority is your student cohort.
- Enforcing discipline through conventional authority. No detention, no suspension, no "do it because I said so." You rely on reasoning and positive reinforcement to create a respectful, energized culture.
Key responsibilities
Cultivate a cohort of high school students who are engaged with school, accelerate their learning by 2x through adaptive software, and achieve mastery in practical life skills.
Candidate requirements
- Bachelor's degree in any field
- 3+ years of direct experience working with high school students (ages 13-18)
- Ability to work on-site in Brownsville, TX (relocation assistance provided)
- Authorization to work legally in the US
Nice to have
- Experience as a sports coach, camp counselor, or leader of youth programs who has inspired teenagers in non-classroom settings
- Demonstrated success guiding groups to hit quantifiable targets (completion metrics, performance indicators, behavioral outcomes)
- Familiarity with adaptive learning systems or educational technology tools
- Ability to captivate a room of teenagers through storytelling, delivered with cultural sensitivity and authenticity
