Life Skills Coach   $100,000 USD/year

Description

  • On-site position in Brownsville, TX (relocation support provided)
  • $100,000 annual salary paid weekly, plus health benefits

Most educators pour effort into battling bureaucracy. They draft lesson plans no one reviews. They endure staff meetings that produce no change. You recognized long ago that this isn't the real work. The real work is the student sitting in front of you.

At Alpha, academic instruction is delivered through software. Adaptive applications guide each student through content at an individualized pace. No traditional lectures, no homework assignments, no grading responsibilities. This structure allows you to focus on what truly transforms lives: facilitating life skills workshops where high school students develop public speaking abilities, concentration techniques, and feedback literacy, then providing one-on-one coaching to maintain their motivation and achieve learning milestones. You'll spend half your time leading group sessions. The other half involves individual conversations with students, analyzing their Coachbot data to pinpoint exactly where obstacles exist and why.

Following each workshop, students complete a mastery-based assessment. More than 90% should rate your facilitation highly. Every student should demonstrate progress in their learning applications. These aren't aspirational targets; they define the standard. Maintaining high expectations demonstrates your conviction that students can reach them. Throughout this role, you'll develop expertise in creating workshops that engage teenagers authentically, mastering advanced educational technology, and establishing meaningful relationships with students and families. Our Brownsville location neighbors SpaceX. Educational innovation converges with aerospace exploration, positioning you to fulfill Alpha's fundamental commitment: students who are enthusiastic about school, learn at double the conventional rate, and acquire capabilities with real-world application. If you've anticipated a school structured around your vision of effective education, you've found it.

What you will be doing

  • Facilitating one-hour life skills workshops for high school students covering subjects such as public speaking, focus techniques, and feedback exchange, followed by measuring proficiency through structured Test2Pass assessments
  • Conducting daily individual motivation sessions, leveraging Coachbot analytics to engage with students personally, diagnose learning app obstacles, and guide them through challenges
  • Collaborating with students to develop personalized motivational approaches, including reward systems and incentives that encourage independent advancement in academic applications
  • Preparing by reviewing curriculum materials and session plans, then adjusting your approach based on real-time assessment of student engagement

What you will NOT be doing

  • Delivering academic content. Software manages instruction in mathematics, literacy, and all other subjects.
  • Overseeing school operations or supervising staff. No budget responsibilities, no recruitment duties, no administrative meetings; your complete attention remains on your student cohort.
  • Enforcing discipline through conventional authority structures. No detention assignments, no suspension procedures, no arbitrary directives. You establish a respectful, energized environment through reasoning and positive reinforcement.

Key responsibilities

Develop a cohort of high school students who are enthusiastic about school, achieve accelerated learning at 2x conventional rates through adaptive software, and demonstrate proficiency in practical life skills.

Candidate requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in any field
  • 3+ years of direct experience working with high school students (ages 13-18)
  • Willing to work on-site in Brownsville, TX (relocation support provided)
  • Legal authorization to work in the US

Nice to have

  • Experience as a sports coach, camp counselor, or youth program facilitator who has motivated adolescents in non-traditional classroom settings
  • Demonstrated success leading groups toward quantifiable objectives (completion metrics, performance standards, behavioral outcomes)
  • Familiarity with adaptive learning systems or educational technology platforms
  • Narrative skills that captivate teenage audiences, presented with cultural sensitivity and authenticity
