Life Skills Coach   $100,000 USD/year

Description

  • On-site position in Brownsville, TX (relocation support provided)
  • $100,000 annual salary paid weekly, plus health benefits

Most educators burn energy navigating bureaucracy. They draft lesson plans no one reviews. They endure staff meetings that yield no change. You realized long ago that wasn't the real work. The real work is the student sitting in front of you.

At Alpha, academic instruction is delivered through software. Adaptive applications guide each student through content at an individualized pace. No traditional lectures, no assigned homework, no grading papers. This structure allows you to focus on what truly transforms outcomes: facilitating life skills workshops where high schoolers develop public speaking ability, concentration, and feedback literacy, then providing one-on-one coaching to maintain their motivation and achievement of learning objectives. Half your time is spent leading group sessions. The other half is dedicated to individual meetings, where you use Coachbot analytics to pinpoint precisely where a student is struggling and why.

Students complete a mastery assessment following each workshop you deliver. 90%+ should consistently give you strong ratings. 100% should be making progress in their learning apps. These aren't stretch goals; they define the standard. Maintaining high expectations demonstrates your conviction that students are capable of meeting them. In this role, you'll develop expertise in creating workshops that engage teenagers deeply, mastering advanced educational technology, and forming meaningful relationships with students and families. Our Brownsville location is adjacent to SpaceX. Where educational innovation intersects aerospace exploration, you'll fulfill Alpha's central commitment: students who are enthusiastic about school, learn at twice the typical rate, and acquire genuinely useful capabilities. If you've been searching for a school structured the way you believe schools should be, you've found it.

What you will be doing

  • Facilitating one-hour life skills workshops for high school students covering subjects such as public speaking, concentration, and feedback exchange, then evaluating mastery via a structured Test2Pass assessment
  • Conducting daily individual motivation sessions using Coachbot data to engage with students one-on-one, determine where they're encountering obstacles in their learning applications, and help them overcome resistance
  • Collaborating with students to develop personalized motivational approaches, including reward systems and incentives that encourage independent progress through their academic software
  • Studying curriculum materials and lesson frameworks prior to each session, then adjusting your approach based on the dynamics you observe in the room

What you will NOT be doing

  • Delivering instruction in academic subjects. Math, reading, and all other content areas are taught by software.
  • Overseeing school operations or supervising staff. No budget responsibilities, no recruitment, no administrative meetings; your complete attention is on your student cohort.
  • Enforcing discipline through conventional authority. No detention assignments, no suspensions, no appeals to positional power. You rely on reasoning and positive reinforcement to create a respectful, energized learning space.

Key responsibilities

Develop a cohort of high school students who are enthusiastic about school, achieve learning gains at 2x the standard rate through adaptive technology, and demonstrate competency in practical life skills.

Candidate requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in any field
  • 3+ years of direct experience working with high school-aged students (ages 13-18)
  • Willing to work on-site in Brownsville, TX (relocation support available)
  • Legal authorization to work in the US

Nice to have

  • Experience as a sports coach, summer camp counselor, or youth program coordinator who has motivated adolescents in non-traditional classroom settings
  • Demonstrated success leading groups to achieve quantifiable objectives (completion metrics, performance standards, behavioral outcomes)
  • Familiarity with adaptive learning systems or educational technology platforms
  • Ability to tell stories that capture and hold teenage audiences, communicated with cultural sensitivity and authenticity
