Long-term role

K-12 Teacher   $120,000 USD/year

Description

  • $120,000 annual W2 salary with weekly pay; health, dental, and vision benefits effective day one
  • Full-time role (40 hours per week), on-site at Alpha School's Kirkland, WA campus (possible temporary assignment at a different Alpha campus prior to Kirkland opening)
  • Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate is mandatory. Without certification, no interview will be scheduled.

You hold a WA teaching certificate. What remains to be decided is whether you want to continue your career lecturing, grading papers, and delivering standardized curriculum.

Your title here is not teacher—you are a motivator. The most meaningful support you can offer a student who reaches 99% of their weekly target is to refuse to accept it as complete. If that approach troubles you, this role is not for you. If it energizes you because maintaining high standards demonstrates belief in a student's potential, read on.

Alpha students complete their academic learning through AI-driven adaptive applications. There are no lectures, textbooks, or weekend lesson-planning sessions. Approximately 60% of your time is spent facilitating one-hour life-skills workshops covering public speaking, focus, and peer feedback. Roughly 30% involves individual or small-group coaching sessions where you analyze Coachbot data and guide each student toward their weekly app progression goals. The remaining 10% is dedicated to data analysis that informs your coaching strategy for the following week. You will not follow a rigid script; top performers in this position customize workshops and create new content when gaps are identified.

Success in this role is not defined by entertaining sessions. It is measured by documented progress. A semester is considered successful when at least 90% of your cohort demonstrates pre-to-post improvement on Test2Pass, at least 90% meet their weekly learning-app progression benchmarks, and students rate their experience with you at 4 out of 5 or higher. Failure to meet any of these three metrics constitutes underperformance. As you demonstrate your ability to uphold rigorous standards, advancement opportunities become available—first to Lead Guide, where you mentor new Guides while managing a cohort, then to Campus Lead.

If you prefer pre-packaged curriculum or believe compassion and accountability are incompatible, this position will not suit you. If your WA certificate is current and you are motivated by coaching K-8 students to concrete results rather than lecturing from textbooks, submit your application today.

What you will be doing

  • Facilitating one-hour life-skills workshops for K-8 cohorts focused on public speaking, concentration, and constructive feedback, modifying the framework and creating new sessions when you identify a need
  • Delivering Test2Pass pre- and post-assessments and continuing to coach students who have not yet achieved mastery until they succeed
  • Conducting daily individual and small-group coaching sessions that drive every student toward their weekly app progression benchmarks, leveraging Coachbot analytics, Alpha's reward structures (school currency, leaderboards), and your personal connection with each student to overcome resistance
  • Analyzing weekly performance metrics, identifying struggling students promptly, and implementing intervention strategies within the same week
  • Serving as the adult who maintains high expectations while building trust; warmth creates the foundation for accountability, and accountability signals your confidence in their abilities

What you will NOT be doing

  • Delivering whiteboard lectures or preparing daily lesson plans; academic content is delivered through applications, not by you
  • Developing curriculum from the ground up; you execute an established framework with enthusiasm and narrative skill
  • Passively monitoring students at computers or allowing them to disengage throughout the day; motivation in this role is proactive, individualized, and persistent
  • Reducing a weekly target or advancing a student without confirmed mastery to maintain schedule or avoid difficult discussions
  • Evaluating homework assignments or handling parent correspondence

Key responsibilities

Guide a K-8 cohort to verifiable mastery of life skills and consistent achievement of weekly learning-app progression benchmarks.

Candidate requirements

  • Current, valid Washington State Teaching Certificate (issued by WA OSPI) or capacity to secure it promptly
  • Bachelor's degree in any discipline
  • Available to work full-time (40 hours per week) on-site at Alpha School's Kirkland, WA campus (with potential temporary assignment at another Alpha campus before Kirkland opens)
  • Comfortable allowing AI to deliver instructional content while you concentrate on motivation and life-skills coaching
  • Authorized to work in the United States without requiring visa sponsorship

Nice to have

  • Background working with K-8 students in any setting (classroom instruction, tutoring, sports, debate, theater, camps, or extracurricular programs)
  • Demonstrated history of exceptional performance (academic, athletic, or career-related) that reflects a consistent commitment to high standards rather than a temporary stance
  • Communication and presentation skills capable of engaging a group of 12-year-olds for an hour without needing to raise your voice
  • Proven ability to convert disengaged or reluctant students into motivated contributors
