Director of Parent Engagement   $200,000 USD/year

Description

  • On-site location: Palo Alto, Piedmont, San Francisco, La Jolla (San Diego), or Los Angeles (South Bay), CA
  • Annual salary: $200,000 · Full-time position
  • Full benefits package: Health, vision, dental, 401k, PTO, and more

The families you will serve are not looking for additional services. They are looking for someone whose judgment they can trust completely.

This role is the anchor of that trust. You will be the person families turn to when something doesn't sit right, when they seek counsel, or when they want to share what truly matters. Not out of obligation—but because you have earned their confidence. How you show up will define their experience of their child's education at one of five California locations: Palo Alto, Piedmont, downtown San Francisco, La Jolla, or South Bay (Los Angeles).

Alpha is constructing a fundamentally different model of schooling. Students complete their core academic work in two hours daily through AI-powered platforms, then devote the balance of their time to public speaking, critical thinking, and real-world problem-solving. No traditional lectures. No filler assignments. Top 1% performance outcomes at the national level. The families we serve are sophisticated, well-counseled, and frequently skeptical. They demand clarity and depth, not rehearsed messaging.

You will steward that dialogue over the long term. Not only during the enrollment phase, but year after year. You will speak with fluency about AI—its mechanics, its shortcomings, and its significance—particularly with families who lead companies, fund them, or require precision at every turn. If you are unable to sustain that caliber of dialogue, this position will feel burdensome. If you can, it becomes among the most intellectually rewarding roles in the education sector.

This is not client account management. This is sustained trust-building with ultra-high-net-worth families who expect confidentiality, discernment, and reliability. If that setting feels natural—and you use AI tools daily to think, communicate, and execute with greater speed—the opportunity will be immediately evident.

What you will be doing

  • Take full ownership of every family relationship on your campus, cultivating trust that deepens over time
  • Identify concerns before they escalate and address them with discretion, urgency, and clear judgment
  • Be consistently present at pivotal moments: morning arrival, afternoon departure, and thoughtfully designed parent gatherings
  • Facilitate ongoing, substantive discussions about Alpha's AI-powered model with highly analytical, technology-literate families
  • Create and continuously improve community experiences that foster belonging, loyalty, and active referrals

What you will NOT be doing

  • Overseeing admissions pipelines or enrollment goals—your work begins once families have committed
  • Operating remotely or relying solely on email—this role demands consistent physical presence
  • Reading from scripts or sidestepping difficult questions about AI or educational philosophy
  • Depending on established frameworks—you will design systems in areas where none currently exist
  • Viewing families as accounts—this role values judgment above task execution

Key responsibilities

Cultivate and maintain profound trust with ultra-high-net-worth families, ensuring sustained retention, active advocacy, and unwavering confidence in Alpha's AI-powered educational approach.

Candidate requirements

  • Located in or able to commute daily to Palo Alto, Piedmont, San Francisco, La Jolla, or Los Angeles

  • Demonstrated capacity to manage complex, high-stakes relationships with confidentiality and sound judgment
  • Daily, active use of AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity) and the ability to articulate AI capabilities, risks, and constraints with clarity
  • Commanding presence and communication skills that establish credibility with highly educated, high-expectation families
  • Professional or personal familiarity with private or independent school environments
  • Flexibility to be available for early morning, late afternoon, and occasional evening or weekend events

Nice to have

  • Pre-existing connections within local private school or UHNW networks
  • Prior experience engaging with founders, investors, or technology executives
  • Proven ability to build communities or programs that generate organic referrals
  • Background in early-stage or high-growth settings where ambiguity is the norm
  • Skill in distilling complex technical topics into clear, confident dialogue
