Director of Family Relations   $200,000 USD/year

Description

  • On-site: Palo Alto, Piedmont, San Francisco, La Jolla (San Diego), or Los Angeles (South Bay), CA
  • $200,000/yr · Full-time salary
  • Benefits: Health, vision, dental, 401k, PTO, etc.

The families you serve do not require additional services. They need a trusted advisor they can rely on completely.

This position anchors that trust. You will be the individual families turn to when something seems amiss, when they seek clarity, or when they wish to discuss what matters most. Not as a function of your title—but because you have established credibility. Your role will define how families perceive their child's education across one of five California locations: Palo Alto, Piedmont, downtown San Francisco, La Jolla, or South Bay (Los Angeles).

Alpha is constructing a distinct model of schooling. Students finish core academics in two hours daily through AI-powered platforms, dedicating remaining time to public speaking, critical thinking, and practical execution. No traditional lectures. No redundant assignments. Top 1% outcomes nationally. Our families are discerning, well-informed, and frequently skeptical. They demand rigorous thinking, not rehearsed responses.

You will steward that dialogue across years. Not only during enrollment, but continuously. You will speak with authority about AI—its mechanics, its shortcomings, and its significance—particularly with families who lead companies, fund ventures, or demand precision in all matters. If you cannot sustain that caliber of discourse, this role will prove demanding. If you can, it becomes among the most intellectually rewarding positions in education.

This is not client management. This is enduring trust with ultra-high-net-worth families who expect discretion, sound reasoning, and reliability. If that setting resonates—and you use AI daily to think, communicate, and work more efficiently—you will see the opportunity clearly.

What you will be doing

  • Take full ownership of every family relationship on campus, cultivating trust that deepens over time
  • Identify concerns proactively and address them with discretion, efficiency, and thoughtful judgment
  • Ensure consistent visibility during critical moments: morning drop-off, afternoon pick-up, and thoughtfully planned parent gatherings
  • Facilitate ongoing, substantive discussions about Alpha's AI-driven approach with highly analytical, technology-oriented families
  • Develop and refine community programming that fosters belonging, advocacy, and organic referrals

What you will NOT be doing

  • Overseeing admissions pipelines or enrollment metrics—your responsibilities begin once families have committed
  • Operating from behind a desk or relying solely on email—this demands high in-person visibility
  • Delivering scripted answers or avoiding challenging questions regarding AI or pedagogy
  • Depending on established processes—you will create infrastructure where none currently exists
  • Viewing families as transactional accounts—this role values discernment over task execution

Key responsibilities

Establish and maintain profound trust with ultra-high-net-worth families, securing long-term retention, advocacy, and unwavering confidence in Alpha's AI-powered educational approach.

Candidate requirements

  • Based in or able to commute daily to Palo Alto, Piedmont, San Francisco, La Jolla, or Los Angeles

  • Proven ability to navigate complex, high-stakes relationships with discretion and sound judgment
  • Active, daily user of AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity) with the ability to clearly explain AI capabilities, risks, and limitations
  • Strong presence and communication style that earns credibility with highly educated, high-expectation families
  • Familiarity with private or independent school ecosystems, either professionally or personally
  • Availability for early mornings, late afternoons, and select evening or weekend events

Nice to have

  • Existing relationships within local private school or UHNW communities
  • Experience working with founders, investors, or tech executives
  • Track record of building communities or experiences that drive organic referrals
  • Experience in early-stage or high-growth environments where ambiguity is high
  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, confident conversations
