Director of Enrollment   $250,000 USD/year

Description

In the Bay Area's most established schools, admissions professionals do not sell. They oversee waitlists, convene committees, and steward reputations cultivated over decades. This role works differently. In your territory, nearly every family will encounter us for the first time. Your job is to find them.

Alpha operates as a K-12 independent school anchored by a verifiable proposition: students finish core academics in two hours daily, progress ahead of national benchmarks, and devote afternoons to substantive skill development rather than filler. Bay Area families represent both the toughest and most valuable audience for this model. Founders, technologists, doctors, and investors will not accept platitudes or facility tours alone. They will scrutinize the evidence, probe the compromises, and evaluate us alongside Nueva, Castilleja, Harker, Marin Country Day, and Branson without hesitation. You should welcome that scrutiny.

Understand the nature of this position. It is a sales mandate coupled with selectivity requirements. You create your own pipeline: cultivating preschool and feeder relationships, forging community alliances, organizing local outreach, and earning referrals from enrolled families. You own a growth target. You also decline families when the fit is inappropriate for their child—in a market where declining a well-connected parent carries real risk. Both dimensions matter equally. A single mismatched family in a small cohort costs more than an unfilled seat.

In year one, you serve as the founding local representative of a campus with limited brand recognition, and most of your time unfolds beyond campus walls. As enrollment grows, your responsibilities evolve. You transition from initiating conversations to becoming the enrollment leader parents request by name, supported by a team beneath you and a process other campuses replicate.

You will work on-site at a single campus (Palo Alto or San Rafael) five days per week, present at morning arrival, afternoon dismissal, and evening programming. If you possess Bay Area roots and want to shape the full family experience, apply now.

What you will be doing

  • Building qualified family pipelines independently through preschool and feeder-school partnerships, community alliances, referral networks, and locally organized events.
  • Managing each step personally: initial inquiry, needs-assessment dialogue, campus visit, student shadow experience, enrollment verdict, and family onboarding.
  • Conducting tours, open houses, and information sessions in which you justify an AI-powered instructional model to discerning, questioning parents.
  • Maintaining 7 or more concurrent family relationships across enrollment stages, with documented status and next steps recorded in HubSpot and the student information system.
  • Delivering weekly updates on pipeline strength and conversion integrity, and refining the local admissions playbook, FAQs, and standard operating procedures based on market insight.

What you will NOT be doing

  • Managing an inherited waitlist. No established demand exists here.
  • Seeking approval from admissions committees or navigating layered authorization structures.
  • Following a script or working from a quota-driven contact list.
  • Transferring families between coordinators, event staff, and reception.
  • Supervising a large staff or spending the majority of your time in internal coordination meetings.

Key responsibilities

Expand enrollment at a single Bay Area campus by enrolling families aligned with the Alpha educational model.

Candidate requirements

  • 3+ years in client-facing positions serving high-net-worth individuals: households earning above $500K annually, or transactions exceeding $10K. You must identify the employer and price tier.
  • Direct ownership of a complete client, admissions, or enrollment process: application, needs evaluation, offer, decision, and onboarding. Describe your actions, not team contributions.
  • Documented ownership of a growth or customer-acquisition metric, including your lead-generation methods and local partnership strategy used to achieve it.
  • Management of 7 or more simultaneous client or family relationships across pipeline stages, recorded in a specified CRM or database system.
  • A specific instance in which you advised against your own offering due to poor fit.
  • Professional written correspondence with C-level executives or high-net-worth clientele.
  • Current residence in or commitment to relocate within 60 days to Palo Alto, CA, or San Rafael, CA (Marin County). This position is entirely on-site, not hybrid.
  • Work authorization in the United States without requirement for visa sponsorship.

Nice to have

  • Established connections within Peninsula or Marin family networks, including ties to local private preschools or feeder institutions.
  • Prior admissions or enrollment responsibility at a selective independent K-12 school, or an oversubscribed program.
  • Experience in luxury hospitality, private client services, concierge medicine, private wealth management, exclusive membership organizations, or premium residential real estate.
  • Proficiency with AI applications such as ChatGPT for meeting preparation, personalized outreach, and pipeline risk identification.
