Description

IMPORTANT NOTE: This is an in-person position based at our Austin, Texas campus.

Most traditional schools focus on teaching students what to think. This position focuses on teaching them how to execute.

Alpha is creating a new type of high school—one where students don't passively attend lectures or memorize information. Instead, they build, ship, communicate, and develop. They launch projects, experiment with ideas, and cultivate real-world capabilities that many adults never acquire. Your responsibility is to ensure they follow through, and do so effectively.

You will engage directly with high school students as they launch businesses, manage projects, and build the confidence, communication skills, and competence needed to thrive beyond the classroom. You are not here to deliver theoretical content. You are here to guide execution. You will establish high expectations, maintain accountability, and challenge students to create work that meets real-world standards. As the program expands, your impact grows; your workshops integrate into the school's core operations, and the students you mentor become evidence of what this approach delivers.

This position is designed for individuals who have accomplished something significant outside traditional education—whether building a product, expanding an audience, working within a startup, or achieving results in a high-velocity setting—and are ready to leverage that background to cultivate the next generation. If you seek a conventional teaching position, this isn't it. If you aim to influence how driven teenagers think, operate, and perform, this is the opportunity.

If you've achieved meaningful results in your career and are ready to dedicate your time to guiding motivated teenagers toward their full potential, this is your platform. Apply now.

What you will be doing

  • Create and lead practical workshops (40% of your time) covering subjects including entrepreneurship, financial literacy, personal branding, and additional real-world areas; leveraging your own professional background
  • Provide 1:1 coaching (60% of your time) as students execute actual projects across specific domains—businesses, marketing initiatives, and coding products—using targeted questions to identify obstacles and drive tangible progress
  • Maintain high expectations for confidence, communication, and capability; stepping in when performance declines and establishing concrete commitments during each session
  • Train students in the use of AI platforms (ChatGPT, Claude) for content generation, refinement, and productivity enhancement
  • Maintain direct communication with students and parents regarding progress, shortfalls, and action items

What you will NOT be doing

  • Conducting traditional lectures or following a standardized curriculum
  • Grading large volumes of homework or emphasizing theoretical concepts
  • Accommodating disengaged students or compromising standards for the sake of comfort
  • Functioning within a slow-moving, bureaucratic school system

Key responsibilities

Achieve quantifiable improvement in students' confidence, communication ability, and real-world competence by guiding them to execute consistently at an elevated standard.

Candidate requirements

  • Documented history of significant personal accomplishment in at least one real-world area: launching a company, building an audience, generating revenue, publishing research, competing at an elite level, or equivalent
  • Established ability to mentor teenagers through resistance or avoidance behaviors
  • 3+ years experience coaching/mentoring teenagers
  • Clear, straightforward communication approach: confident presenting to groups and providing candid feedback to teenagers and parents
  • AI/technology proficiency (ChatGPT, Claude, etc.)
  • Available to work on-site in Austin, TX. Relocation support is provided
  • Authorized to work in the US without requiring visa sponsorship

Nice to have

  • Advanced expertise in at least one practical field (entrepreneurship, medicine, sales, technology, creative industries, finance, athletics) that you can integrate into sessions and workshops with depth
  • Prior experience working in a startup or high-growth organization at any capacity
