Life Skills Coach   $150,000 USD/year

Description

You have accomplished difficult things. You have operated under genuine standards. You understand the gap between effort and execution. If you are ready to apply that discipline in a setting where it reshapes a young person's path, this position is designed for you.

Alpha School leverages AI-driven 1:1 instruction so that students complete core academics in roughly two hours each day. The remaining time is dedicated to life skills, passion projects, and meaningful development. At our most rigorous campuses, students require more than oversight. They need a credible mentor capable of assessing dynamics, establishing expectations, and guiding them through resistance, distraction, and uncertainty.

This is not a conventional teaching position. You will not deliver lectures, assign grades, or develop curriculum. You will coach. You will facilitate structured life-skills training. You will analyze data to identify what is limiting a student's progress, then guide with intention and clarity until they execute.

If you hold an elite credential and have a history of elevating others' performance, we are interested in speaking with you. Apply to contribute to a campus environment where students arrive focused, develop genuine competencies, and surpass demanding objectives.

What you will be doing

  • Facilitate 1:1 and small-group coaching that converts student objectives into reliable action and quantifiable advancement
  • Leverage analytics and individual goals to identify obstacles and establish rigorous, tailored motivation strategies
  • Conduct structured life-skills sessions through authentic narrative, guided reflection, and practical application, followed by competency evaluation
  • Direct daily opening routines that establish culture, uphold rigorous standards, and prepare students before work begins
  • Build credible mentor relationships with students and their families through sustained high expectations, reliability, and principled decision-making

What you will NOT be doing

  • Deliver traditional classroom instruction, lectures, or academic tutoring
  • Develop curriculum, write lesson plans, or evaluate academic assignments
  • Supervise staff, oversee campus operations, or assume administrative leadership responsibilities
  • Compromise standards to secure immediate compliance or superficial outcomes

Key responsibilities

This position ensures that students at Alpha's most rigorous campuses maintain strong motivation and accomplish continuous growth and life-skill proficiency through elite, high-standards coaching.

Candidate requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in any field
  • At least one clear elite marker (athletics, academics, career achievement, or elite coaching)
  • Experience in people-facing mentoring, coaching, or leadership that measurably raised others' performance
  • Comfort operating in high-accountability environments with clear standards and follow-through
  • Ability to lead engaging, high-rigor group sessions and coach individuals with strong judgment
  • Willingness to work full-time (40 hours/week) in person at Alpha's Austin campus
  • Legal right to work in the U.S.

Nice to have

  • Multiple elite markers with clear evidence of raising standards and outcomes
  • Experience using data and analytics to drive coaching plans and accountability
  • Background in selective firms, competitive startups, or elite athletics programs with intense performance expectations
