Life Skills Coach   $150,000 USD/year

Description

You've accomplished difficult things. You've operated within rigorous standards. You understand the gap between effort and results. If you're looking to apply that discipline where it shapes a young person's future, this position is designed for you.

Alpha School leverages AI-driven 1:1 instruction so students complete core academics in roughly two hours daily. The remaining time is dedicated to life skills, passion projects, and meaningful development. At our most demanding campuses, students require more than oversight. They need a credible mentor who can assess the environment, establish expectations, and guide them past resistance, distractions, and uncertainty.

This is not conventional teaching. You won't deliver lectures, assign grades, or develop lesson plans. You will coach. You will facilitate structured life-skills workshops. You will analyze data to identify what's limiting a student's progress, then apply pressure with precision and empathy until they execute.

If you hold an elite credential and have a proven history of elevating others' performance, we're interested in speaking with you. Apply to contribute to a campus environment where students arrive prepared, develop tangible skills, and surpass demanding objectives.

What you will be doing

  • Conduct 1:1 and small-group coaching that converts student objectives into reliable execution and quantifiable outcomes
  • Leverage analytics and goal frameworks to identify obstacles and design ambitious, customized motivation strategies
  • Facilitate high-rigor life-skills workshops through authentic narratives, structured reflection, and practical application, then evaluate mastery
  • Guide daily opening sessions that establish culture, uphold high standards, and prepare students before work begins
  • Build trusted mentorship with students and families grounded in high expectations, reliability, and disciplined judgment

What you will NOT be doing

  • Deliver traditional classroom instruction, lectures, or academic tutoring
  • Develop curriculum, write lesson plans, or evaluate student assignments
  • Supervise staff, oversee campus operations, or assume administrative leadership responsibilities
  • Compromise standards to achieve immediate compliance or superficial progress

Key responsibilities

This position ensures that students at Alpha's most rigorous campuses remain intensely motivated and attain continuous growth and life-skill proficiency through elite, high-standards coaching.

Candidate requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in any discipline
  • At least one distinct elite marker (athletic achievement, academic distinction, professional accomplishment, or elite-level coaching)
  • Demonstrated experience in direct mentoring, coaching, or leadership that produced measurable improvements in others' performance
  • Ease operating within high-accountability settings characterized by explicit standards and consistent follow-through
  • Capability to facilitate compelling, high-rigor group sessions and coach individuals with sound judgment
  • Availability to work full-time (40 hours per week) onsite at Alpha's Austin campus
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States

Nice to have

  • Multiple elite markers with documented evidence of elevating standards and results
  • Experience applying data and analytics to shape coaching strategies and accountability frameworks
  • History in competitive firms, high-growth startups, or elite athletics organizations with demanding performance cultures
