Description

  • Location: On-site at Alpha Schools, Scottsdale (Phoenix), AZ
  • Compensation: $30/hr | 15–30 hrs/week | Full-time option at $60,000 annually + benefits
  • Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM–4:00 PM (flexible hours within school day)

If catching a wandering 10-year-old's attention before they derail the entire group is where you excel, continue reading. This isn't a support role where you observe from the sidelines and step in only during crises.

Alpha operates a compressed K-12 model: every minute accounted for, faster paced than conventional schools, and centered on a Guide whose sole focus is teaching. The model functions only when someone controls the operational backbone — smooth transitions, materials staged before instruction, and student focus maintained before minor distractions escalate.

You'll be immersed from day one. No gradual onboarding. You'll be scanning the room, implementing Alpha's approved motivational strategies (positive reinforcement, structured cues, immediate redirection), and staging each activity so the Guide arrives and begins without delay. When executed correctly, a student losing focus is re-engaged before the lesson loses momentum. The standards are explicit: 95% on-time transitions, pre-staged materials for every lesson, sustained student engagement.

As you gain fluency in Alpha's approach, your ownership expands. Assistants who perfect the operational framework assume greater classroom authority — and for qualified candidates, a clear path to Guide exists. Submit your application today.

What you will be doing

  • Managing student transitions between activities (approximately 30% of time): tracking the schedule, cueing students to shift, and applying positive reinforcement to maintain orderly, punctual movement
  • Staging classroom materials ahead of each lesson by collecting supplies, arranging them according to the activity outline, and verifying setup aligns with the Guide's specifications before teaching starts
  • Supporting student engagement throughout structured activities (approximately 40% of time) by observing participation, spotting disengagement quickly, and redirecting students with Alpha's approved classroom management methods without disrupting instruction

What you will NOT be doing

  • Observing from the back of the classroom until problems arise — this position demands active involvement and immediate judgment calls throughout each school day
  • Creating lesson content, drafting activity plans, or owning academic results (those belong to the Guide)
  • Developing your own behavioral strategies; Alpha's motivational methods are established and you'll use them uniformly
  • Handling facility maintenance, carpool coordination, or evening events; your domain is classroom operations during school hours

Key responsibilities

Maintain Alpha's classroom operations so Guides remain dedicated to instruction.

Candidate requirements

  • Available to work on-site at our Scottsdale campus.
  • Commit to a minimum of 10 hours weekly, with complete flexibility to select your hours during school time (Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM). Full-time position available.
  • Prior experience with children ages 5–14 in structured environments (school, camp, childcare, tutoring, or coaching).
  • Capacity to organize people, materials, and activities efficiently and promptly.
  • Child-oriented and confident redirecting children through positive encouragement.
  • Authorized to work in the U.S. without requiring visa sponsorship.

Nice to have

  • Direct group management experience with active children (camp counselor, classroom assistant, teacher's aide, paraprofessional, youth sports coach, or after-school program coordinator)
  • Familiarity with mastery-based, competency-driven, or structured educational models (Montessori, project-based learning, or comparable approaches)
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain group schedules through positive redirection instead of escalating to adult authority
